Why are these mags so expensive ? The lowest price I have found is $48.00 for a 10 rounder. Is there a rational explanation for these insane prices,or am I just not looking in the right places ? I just picked up one of these guns, and the thing is great. No complaints with the weapon at all,but the mag prices are completely insane and they aren't even considered "high capacity". |

They're HKs, that explains it all. None of HK mags are cheap. Never have been, likely never will be. HKs are sort of like top end cars. The guns are expensive and so is every freaking thing associated with them. If you are going to get into the HK game, and I can think of no finer pistol that I would want to trust my life to, then you learn very soon that you have to suck it up when it comes to buying accessories. Mag prices are high, but it is something you just have to get use to. Also, the USPC .45 has never really had 10 round mags made specifically for it, at least not until the HK45 came out. When the HK45 was being designed, they decided to use the USPC 45 mags for it, so they started making longer bodied 10 round mags for that pistol, then added a longer floor plate so it would also fit the HK45C without a gap (which uses as the standard mag the 8 round USPC .45 mag), and they of course fit the parent USPC .45 pistol perfectly. Why the 10 round HK45C mag and the now listed USPC 45 10 round mag have different part numbers is beyond me because they are exactly the same mag with absolutely no differences. |

The USPc 45 10 round mag is a "high cap" magazine for that gun. Demand for that magazine is higher than the demand for the 8 rounders, currently. If tomorrow, 49 states banned high cap mags effective immediately, then the price of 16 round USP 40 mags would plummet and the price of all of the 10 rounders would sky-rocket because only one state would be able to purchase the high-cap mags. The simple fact is, the demand and the limited supply for HK mags means higher prices. You'll soon notice that most dealers can't keep HK mags in stock. They show up, they put them out for sale at $40, and before they know it they're sold out. So the next time they get a batch in, they put them up for $45 like any savvy businessman would. And when those sell out fairly quickly, they put the next shipment up at $50. I remember about a year ago CDNN got some used HK G36 30 round mags in, and threw them up for sale at $13 or so a piece. I tried to buy 10 of them within a day of them going up for sale and CDNN was sold out already. The next time those mags came up for sale they were $30 or $35. And they sold out of those within a week. Not a bad gig to triple your money by waiting 7 days. |

The only mags that HK makes that are $10 each are the neutered 10 round mags for all USP/Cs, and if you buy a full cap from CDNN they will give you a neutered mag free. Of course now that not many people want the 10 round mags they are dirt cheap, but during the ban, and if another comes, you will see those $10 mags back up to the same price as the full caps are now and the full caps going for between $75 and $100 like they did during the last ban. Maybe more next time since any new ban will not have a sunset. And the cheapest I have ever seen the USPC .45 mags, the topic of the OP, is $19.00 and that was right after the ban ended when CDNN had them until they ran out (8 round mags, not 10). Then they were $29, then up to what they are now, $39. That is not cheap for a 8 round mag IMO. At $19 they were fine but as Mav said, they sold out so quickly I only got 5 of them, then 5 more at $29 and was damned lucky to get them at that price. Why CDNN ran them so cheap I don't know but I'm sure it had something to do with the ban ending. |
