I have a question to ask in regards to the USP Compact's hammer. In variation 3 (SA/DA) is it possible to pull back the hammer and go into SA mode without firing a first shot? The bobbed hammer appears too small to be able to do that. Is it possible, and if so, is it difficult? Sorry for the newbie question. I don't have any experience with HK firearms, and I am contemplating purchasing a USP Compact, or a Glock 19 and I am comparing their mechanics. |

I just recently purchased a USPc and it also has the bobbed hammer in variant 1. You cannot pull back the hammer by itself. You have to rack the slide to chamber a round to set the hammer...but if you are trying to decide between the two, do what I did and get the HK...you will never regret it!... |
I have a HK USPc .45 and it is a VERY nice gun. I carry it quite frequently. You are right however, mags run around $50. Blah. |
The HK is a super sweet handgun and I am already looking at trading my M&Ps for a .45 USPc...The mags are pricey but you can find them for around $30-$40 if you look hard enough. I just purchased some for $31.61 each for 12 round mags. CDNN has them for $39.99 and you get a free 10 round mag with that purchase. Definitely order one, you won't be sorry... |

I cock my USPC .45 first quite often without any trouble. So long as the hammer is in the decock position instead of being all the way down it is not difficult to thumb the hammer back due to the rubber tip on it. Even though there is no spur, the rubber tip allows it to be cocked. It is hard to do if your hands are wet but if the thumb is dry it is not a big deal. Just be sure to keep your finger off the trigger when doing so because if you have your finger on the trigger and you slip with your thumb, you are in for an unpleasant surprise. Plus, if you plan on cocking it first often, it is not difficult to put a spurred hammer on the pistol. Get a V1 USP hammer (USP and USPC pistols use the same hammers) and put it on. Now it will be super easy to cock with the thumb. |
For anyone with a 9mm, ask them to make the free 10 round mag a .40 because it will fit 13 9mm rounds. I've used hundreds of rounds through the .40 mags with my 9mm and not a problem. I still use the dedicated 9mm mags for defense though. |
You know the 12 round USP 45 fullsize mags won't work in the USP 45 compact, right? |
