Hi All,
Variant 9 states DA/SA with a manual safety. That means that you rack the slide and engage the thumb safety like the 1911... Where does the DA come in if there's no decocker? I've always been a Glock and 1911 shooter but for some reason seem to really want to try the USP. -Coop |

On my 9mm varient 9 I chamber the round then manually decock the hammer, this is second nature after using Browning hp's. You can then pull the trigger it will half cock with the safety on, or manually pull the hammer back to half cock. The DA allows you to drop the safety and pull through the trigger to have a first shot without pulling hammer back to fire like BHP's or 1911's. If im at the range or plinking I take the time to full cock the hammer to get the better first shot single action pull trigger.
Hope this helps as I acuired my varient 9 from a friend that won it at his Rangers qualifying some how. I will never own another varient USP after using this as I love the half cocked and locked old style carry but still able to have a quick to action DA first shot for emergency. |

Yes it definitely has a short reset, in my opinion a much better trigger bone stock over the modified 3.5lb glock triggers I have played with.
I would never myself ruin the light pull to trade for a LEM trigger kit, there is no reason some basic gun discipline/training can’t cure manually decocking the hammer while you have your finger on the trigger. It’s no more unsafe than carrying a 1911 or a old Winchester lever gun, etc... I do take care as to only decock my hammer outside, away from my family and pointed at a safe muzzle direction just for my own discipline . |
