I picked up a used VTAC and the mags don't drop free. It came with 4 mags (all S&W) and none of them drop.
Should they drop free, or is it something I'm missing? Thanks in advance |
i never knew of these problems,, and ive been wanting to get me a vtac model,,, id call s&w,
| I have the same problem with my FS .40 (not VTAC). The 3 mags that came with the gun drop out perfect. The 4 factory ones that I bought do not drop. I've seen some things about sanding highpoints on the inside of the magwell and whatnot but I haven't felt like doing that yet. |

Some of my mags would tend to hand up when I first got them. After a few dozen hours of dry fire practice and 2000 rounds down range, the mags drop free now. Unusually enough, I ordered some more mags recently and they drop a lot faster and easier than my first set of mags.
On a side note, I can feel a retention difference in my newer mags and older mags when putting them in my CR Speed mag pouches so maybe the profile was different on the side of the mags. |

I received a response from S&W today. He said it wasn't normal and I could send it in on their dime if I wanted.
Based on monkey_AR's response, I don't know if its worth doing as it seems his issue wasn't resolved. I'll check out the link posted by Petes1552, thanks. I'll update this thread. Thanks again. |

I didn't mean to imply that S&W's customer service wasn't very good. I"m sure they will do everything they can to solve the problem. I think you'd be better off with some light sanding first before sending it away. BTW, I called S&W to order some FDE baseplates for my extra magazines shortly after getting the VTAC back. The rep was great and tracked down the part number (IIRC it was listed as a baseplate for a .40 even though they are the same part for the 9mm) and then she said don't worry about the charge we'll just mail them for free. |

UPDATE
I called S&W on May 19th and told them what was going on. The followers were backordered but are supposed to in the mail now. They are sending me 2 and an FDE baseplate for no charge. In the meantime, I bought 3 more mags and they all drop free. So I'm hoping its an issue with the follower. |
