My friend has always said that he wanted a .45. One of the reasons was, and bear with me, because if he time traveled and went back to the 40's or 50's, that he could get ammo. I always told him that if that were the case that he should get a .38. But... The question is, if he were to get a modern 1911, say Kimber, would he be able to use magazines built in the 40's in a modern 1911, if he were transported back in time? |
A very creative way to ask about compatibility. Cheers. If you were a beggar, I'd certainly reward that tale. IMHO |
Think of it this way, you would be transported as you were with ,maybe, one extra mag and you were in Chicago during a shoot out whith Capone. I understand that there might be a jam or two, but how unreliable are the mags from those days being fired from a suped up 21st century firearm? That is the question. |
I doubt that the 40's era mags would have any reliably issues feeding the 40's era FMJ ammo of the time |
I always wanted to take a Hughes 500 back to the revolution with mini-guns attached. Then go back and stop myself from changing history. then go back and do it all over with a .50cal . then stop myself and come home and take lots of asprine for the headache i have just from thinking all this.

Do what I do when either traveling in time or traveling to other dimensions: carry a sword. That way, you don't have to worry about ammo. Also, in some less than ideal dimensions, there is no such thing as ammunition. Also, would your friend be able to control the time traveling or would he be transported back by accident? If he can control it, he should just travel to the future and get some kind of future gun that uses solar power or a self chrging power source or a very long lasting battery. If it were by accident, then what if he was accidentally transported earlier than the 20th century before there were any 1911 mags or the .45ACP round? Has he ever thought of that? It is quite obvious that your friend has not thought this time traveling thing through. Tell him to leave things like this to the pros. P.S. This scenario puts those who prepare for SHTF/TEOTWAWKI to shame. Bravo to him for being so prepared. Bravo, sir, bravo! |
The whole question started when I asked him that if he could go back in time, which period he would choose. He chose the gangster, ww2 era. So he could control it but only to go backwards no forwards. |
Um... maybe not. My Series '70 is fed almost exclusively with 70's-era USGI mags that I grab at the funshow for $8 new-in-wrap. The only bad one I've got is one that's too wide and binds up in the magwell, and also has the witness holes mis-drilled about one round off. Aside from that, the only difference is that they hold 7 instead of 8. I'm perfectly happy using them for defense, as they've proven themselves with ball, Hydra-Shoks, and Winchester white-box JHP's. |

Umm, all but one of the 22 mags I use in my 1911A1 are pre WW2 manufacture. Very reliable, very well made. A half dozen are pre WW1 lanyard loop mags. They work satisfactorily as well. They feed whatever .45 ACP I put in em. Of course, this is in a 1944 vintage M1911A1, and a Ballester Molina. Meplat |
So... It binds in the magwell, does not feed reliably, and the witness holes are misdrilled. And you still use it? You haven't tossed it out? Good! Now I feel normal. I hate throwing out a magazine, no matter how pitiful the condition. TRG |

then youll never have to worry about ammo in the past again
