Anybody else have a bad experience with them? one of my friends (good with a gun, but she's still getting used to the inner workings of it) bought a PK 380 before she deployed and left it at her sisters house before she left. While she was gone her brother in law messed around with it and got it all locked up to where she couldn't take off the lock in order to fire it. She called customer service and they said she would have to send it to them because that was the only way to correct the problem, and that she would have to pay shipping both ways. Being a smart girl she talked to several of her firearm savvy friends to see what they could do, none had any luck figuring it out, so she asked me. I picked the pistol up from her house at around 415, got home at about 430. After 10 minutes of messing with it I looked at the manual to see how to strip it down, 5 minutes later the problem was solved. Within 45 minutes of picking it up I had the problem solved and they wanted her to ship it to them so they could fix it, what a waste of time it was calling them. Oh well, at least now she knows how to correct the problem if it happens again.

I wouldn't blame Walther (S&W Customer Service) for not wanting to guess what the problem was over the phone

"Disassemble and then re-assemble the pistol by following the instructions in the manual" - this was figured out by myself, who until yesterday, had never even handled a Walther firearm. It was very easy to describe what the pistol was/wasn't doing, easy enough that if they knew the firearm they could have told her what needed to be done. "Trigger and hammer operate to the extent they are allowed by the internal lock, but the lock can't be taken off". They should know about the design that completely locks the gun if you chamber a round with the internal safety on, just saying.

I get what your getting at but I think your forgetting the century of lawyers and frivolity we live in. If she or you shot yourself performing a stripping of the pistol at their order they'd owe you money and lose face with owners. Sad but true. I agree that most problems can be solved at home but I understand when the maker says send it to us if you want it fixed.

except there was no issue with clearing the pistol, just couldn't take off the internal lock until the pistol was stripped, but I see what you are saying.

Question is was the gun under warrenty?  If not the company is not going to pay for "your" gun to be shipped to them or ship it back.  They did nothing wrong.
She prob told them someone messed with the gun.  There for not the companys fault.

I understand it can be frustrating to have a gun not working.  But no one can blame Walther/SW for not knowing what was wrong.  She may have explaned what was wrong and the company person understood it to be something else wrong.

At least she had a friend like you to look at it.

Moral of the story:

Read your manuel.

Never leave your gun at someone elses house, if you have to have it at someones house locked up with a trigger lock or locking case.

And tell her not never let the brother-in-law touch her guns.

And wow just figured out that this posting was over 2 months old.
