Anyone shot one enough to gauge reliability and accuracy?

Wow... that was useful.

Here's an email response that was though:

I'm emailing you in response to you Walther P99 inquiry on AR15.com
I've had my Walther for about a year now, I have just over 5000 rounds thru it, with zero malfunctions. This is using the pistol in 3 different combative pistol classes, under all kinds of conditions, from blowing sand to freezing rain.
As far as accuracy goes, I sold my Sig P228 because the P99 shoots considerably better than the Sig ever did. Under 2" at 15 yards off-hand, and i'm not a great pistol shot. Off sandbags, at 15 yards it makes one ragged hole.
I'm very impressed with the P99.

Shoots VERY well. The gun is comfortable and easy to conceal.

The .40S&W is NOT as reliable as the Sig (P239)considering the use of various ammo. I have had many FTFs. In my opinion, the feed-ramp is too steep for the dual-taper profile of the common .40S&W bullet.
I cannot speak for the 9mm.

Also, Walther needs to position the slide lock more forward on the slide. I can accidently hit it with my thumb.
The Sig positioning of the decock mechanism is much more ergonomical.

Thanks for the responses and email guys...

Anyone know the difference between the German made and S&W models? Look the same to me, but curious if one is inherently better than the other.

oh, did you want to know more than if anyone had experience? or what their thoughts and experiences were? well then you should have said so.

i have put a thousand rounds through my P99. it is some what finaky about weak reloads and limp wristing. i have never had a jam while i was shooting it but several females i let shoot it encountered frequent problems. i have no complaints and trust it completely. i have put 100 or so hydra shocks through it with no problems so i am quite certain my defense rounds will perform.

as far as i know there is no defference between the german and S&W marks units physically but have been told that the warantee issues will now be done by S&W.

P99 vs USP40: www.lenaburgs.net/james/Guns/P99vsUSP.htm
----------------------------
The SW99 frame, although made by Walther in Germany, has a rounded trigger guard.  The shape and composition of the SW99's slide is also different. The slide and barrel of the SW99 are stainless steel and melonite-finished.  The slide and barrel of the P99 are steel and tennifer-treated.  The P99 is considered by most to be superior to the SW99.
The SW99 can use the M3 tactical light, the P99 has to use a more expensive light.
