Do any of you folks ever practice shooting with your weak hand? In other words if your right handed do you ever practice shooting with your left hand. I've done quite a bit of left hand shooting and I'm probably as good with my left hand as I'm with my right. Reason I do this is just in case I had to use my gun to defend myself or others and my right hand was injured I would be confident shooting with my left hand.  MC

Don't see exactly what this has to do with revolvers, but, oh well.

I practice it, but not nearly as much as I should. I'd consider myself only "functional" with weakhand-only shooting. I really need to do it more, but I don't enjoy it, so I tend to not do it like I should.

i do evey time i shoot.  still not that great, but i thinking with all of the bullets flying, it should keep the perps head down.

you should also try to do reloads with the weak hand and see what that gets ya.

also, the hard part for me is to keep on using my domanint eye when shooting with the off hand.

I started practicing weak hand shooting when I started shooting IPSC. I quickly found a double action trigger is a real bear when shot weak hand for the first shot. Went back to the 1911. Double action revos work ok, much better than double action autos.

Guess I could have posted this elsewhere but posted it here as I carry a revolver as a self defense gun. My reasoning for this was to get ideas from other folks who shoot / practice with the weak hand and bring up points that I hadn't thought about, like practicing a reload with the weak hand. Didn't give that one much thought and it is a good point. Hopefully I won't have to shoot weak hand or reload weak hand in a fefensive situation.

I practice shooting offhand with my weakhand side with all of the handguns I carry, as well as drills with my Rem870.
It is a pain in the arse, but is worth doing. As for the mentioned issue of problems shooting without the dominant eye- I would say try shooting two eyes open. That's the way you find your dominant eye, yes? By seeing which target stayes in focus the same way as it does with both eyes open as with one of the eyes shut.
It is tough, but just remember front sight focussed on target, which is out of focus . . .

im right eye dominant and right handed.

i do keep both eyes open, but when i shoot weak hand, i have to cock my left wrist to see down both the sights.  its just something im not use to doing.

you maynot carry an auto, but if you can try doing the shoot/reload/racking drills weak hand too.

LOL! I'm all messed up.

I'm a right-eye-dominant Southpaw. I also practice weak-hand shooting - right eye and hand ain't so bad. (I also only shoot rifles right-handed - I can't shoot'em lefty.)

Wonder if it'd be worthwhile to practice with weak eye too, again in case of injury. For defensive shooting, I am less reliant on the sights and depend alot upon muscle memory but only for strong hand. Weak hand has no memory ... yet. Although weak-hand shooting with strong-hand support isn't so bad. It's just weak-hand solo that I really need the sights. So maybe weak-hand, weak-eye practice is in order - worst of both worlds.

Did I mention that I am all messed up?

No, but I probably should....

If I have to use my weak hand, its gonna be the guy on the other end of my weapons lucky day....cause I won't hit shit...

Kind of reminds me of shooting with a gas mask on.....whoever was down range was safe that day too...

I do a lot of weak hand shooting using my .22 revolver as it is cheaper than the .38 special or .44 special ammo even when you reload. I take all three with me and shoot weak side as the recoil is different and I feel if your going to shoot weak hand it should also be with your carry gun so you know what to expect.

yes, as a matter of fact if im out shooting skeet and there is a particular flight pattern i cant hit righty, switching to lefty corrects the problem, i dont know why that is, but im comfortable with both hands
