I recently bought a RIA compact, and i'm loving it. Functions like a champ, but...... recently if i put a empty mag in, pull the slide back, the slide will lock in place. Once i drop the mag and press the slide release it goes back just fine. I have 7 mags, and it does the same thing on all of them. Also if the mags are loaded, it functions flawlessly. The only thing i can figure is the slide release is catching on the empty mag a certain way. Any ideas?

You get an operators manual with that pistol? And if you did it will tell you that it's supposed to lock the slide back after the last round. Is that what your talking about?

Do you mean that the slide locks back with an empty mag???
I must be missing something here......sounds like your gun is working fine.

Is this a joke?

Are you saying that you can't depress the slide release when the slide is back and an empty mag is in the pistol?

Try some different mags.  Every time I've seen this, it's been because of a particular follower.

The magazines on the Compacts have some nice strong springs in them, too.
Mine is noticeably stiffer compared to my Government Model.

Besides, you're not supposed to do it like that. Slap in a loaded mag and slingshot the thing.

It's supposed to do that, Kahr pistols do the same thing.  Some form of safety, the slide release will be very hard to depress when there is an empty mag in place, drop the mag about a quarter inch & it is very smooth to operate.  Don't really see the sense in it but it's built into the gun.  Love my RIA Tactical though!

the sense in it is that you are NOT SUPPOSED to let the slide slam home on an empty chamber. its bad for the gun. if you're not loading a round, you are to EASE the slide into battery.

but yea, its supposed to catch when the gun is empty. its to let you know the gun is empty, so you're not pulling the trigger on an empty chamber at the wrong time.
