I added a S&A checkered flat MSH to my '76 Colt Government Model, and boy let me tell ya - what a DIFFERENCE a flat MSH makes!

It just feels so much better now, and points just like I am used to.  Now I just need to find the right thumb safety, one that doesn't have a shelf that goes all the way back (very uncomfortable!)

I'd really like to find a thumb safety just like the one on my Baer TRS:

But whenever I look for a Baer extended thumb safety, I either get ambidextrous ones or this one:

...which is NOT the same as the one on my TRS.

I just like how the shelf doesn't go all the way back, which tends to dig in my thumb and cause redness/tenderness/bloody-mess, depending how much I shoot.

Nice piece! I use the arched MSH but that's the beauty of this platform...so many options...

Wow, those lines are terrible.

That is a fanastic looking pistol!  I really like the ivory grips.  The flat MSH is very comfortable!

Many years after your '76, but I put in a steel, checkered MSH in my Colt 1991 NRM. It makes a world of difference over the polymer one that came from the factory.

That is a beautiful piece you have there.

I have always got along well with the standard M1911 (Long trigger, Flat MSH) and the M1911A1 (Short trigger, Arched MSH). My Delta came with the long/arched setup. I hate the feel with my small hands. That was all the inspiration I needed to ditch the shitty plastic MSH for a steel checkered flat one. Suddenly, the feel improved dramatically. I wonder how I'd like short/flat.

My next mod includes a long solid trigger!

I, too, switched to the Flat MSH when I discovered that I shot the 1911 a lot better one handed with it as compared to the Arched.  Arched looks better but the flat shoots better one handed, IMO.

Look for a high quality WW II style safety and have that polished and blued to match your pistol.

BTW...that Colt is just plain GORGEOUS!!!

Take a look here for thumb safeties. Brownells Thumb Safeties

I think you will find something you like there. I like the Wilson Combat Tactical myself.

I love my short/flat setup.

I prefer just the opposite- I hate flats like arched. I find it very disappointing that nearly every maker now puts flat housings and long triggers on 1911's I always much preferred the arched/short set up.
