A guy I work with has decided to buy a Springfield Armory 1911 for $2500. He couldn't tell me right off which model and I'm curious as to what firearm he's buying for $2500 that he knows so little about. I don't care what he spends his money, I'm just worried he wandered into a gun shop and said what'll you sell me for $2500. He's new to the gun world and I hate to see him get ripped off.

The 'Professional'...and worth every dime when compared to other semi-custom 1911's available IMO.

Dare I think he'd be just as happy with the Trophy NM model for a mere $1200?

I tried to talk him into starting out with something a little cheaper. Even putting the difference towards a rifle or shotgun with a cheaper pistol. Only because he's not a very good shot and figured he'd be disappointed in the gun when he gets it still doesn't shoot any better. He bought the pistol with intentions to use it for an off duty carry pistol, not for competitions.

one thing he won't be is happy with any other 1911 after owning the PRO.  IMO it is much better than the TGO.

I have Baer's Browns, wilson and the Pro is the one.  It should be renamed as the great one TGO.

The best way I can tell you is, after firing my friends(he owns a gun store), comparing a steak cooked in a skillet to one that was actually barbecued. It's just the way you want it done from now on, it will leave you salivating for more and more.

Am I reading this right? He's buying it for an "off duty" carry pistol? This guys a cop and he's that bad of a shot?

Like I said he's brand new to the department, and brand new to the gun world. They can only teach you to shoot but so good in week and a halfs time. Especially when there are other people who need just as much if not more help. Once you've qualified it becomes your responsibility to practice and become more proficient. I don't really see it happening in his case. He'll go shooting occasionally. But only when others are along for the trip. He tends to fall into the follow the crowd categorey.

I should hope you ride two men cars. And work days.

That is a Dangerous thing, in this day and time, Not being Proficient, as you know.

What does he carry on duty?

Take Care

Carrying it further, one could make a case of a Ferrari versus a BMW. Both get you where you want to go, the Ferrari is clearly the more desired method, but is it worth it? Only the buyer can make that decision, IMO.

I know that I've handled $3200 Nighthawk 1911s & didn't see anything that got me all hot & bothered any more than my SA NM Trophy or my Baer Hardball NM...........
