So, I have a hypothetical question...at what point would you feel it was prudent to replace a Glock pistol?
For the record, I love Glock pistols. I own four(all Gen 3, two 19s(one OD, the other black), a 17, and a 30SF). Personally, my black 19(which was my first Glock) is my favorite, most trusted pistol in my collection. I use it for all of my tactical courses and carry it whenever I CCW. Hell, I've even got two top tier 1911s(a Wilson CQB and LB TRS) and I still reach for the 19 whenever I am carrying. As of late, I've decided that I'm going to buy a whole lot more ammo than I do guns. I've spent the last five or six years(and countless thousands of dollars) building a nice gun collection..and I just don't shoot that much. But, that is going to change. This decision is what leads me to my original question. I have the intent of putting a LOT of rounds through my 19 in the next couple of years. In fact, I'm considering ordering 3K rounds of 9mm(along with a couple thousand rounds of XM193 for my carbines) and the majority of it will be going through my black 19. I'll shoot the OD 19 and the 17 some, I really want to build a good rapport with my black 19. At what point should I begin getting concerned with the pistol's longevity? It seems to me that, theoretically, since Glock seems willing to fix anything that fails/wears on one of their pistols(except, maybe, the barrel)...the pistol might last "forever". However, is there a point at which, you would decide to replace it? Basically looking for some opinions/experience here. -D2V |

To clarify:
I'm not afraid of wearing my 19 out...for $500 it can be replaced...I'd have probably fired 5-8 times that value of ammo through it before even considering it "worn out:". But, this is more of a hypothetical question. I mean, I've seen a 1911 that had close to (supposedly) 80K rounds through it. The frame had been ground/welded several times and had something like two or three barrels through it and it was still running. In that example, I'd have probably replaced the pistol the first time the frame had a major crack in it. That's just me. What about you? -D2V |

my g21 that i got in 94 has maybe 60k through it. I gave up counting when I hit 40k. I was using it for shooting IPSC years ago that is where I racked up the numbers. It has gone back to glock twice and both times all I got back that was on the gun before was the frame barrel and slide. All of the other things were replaced. Ok the after market sites were still there. I have changed to a NY2 trigger spring and now carry it for my CCW gun. So i am trying to wear it out and have had no luck.
I hope that this helps you. I do agree with more ammo than guns. Im selling off my extras. Luckily I was always practical with handguns and have only 5 of them. One other thing is that I have worn out way too many mags in this process. Something in the order of 25-30 of them. |

Never will need to replace a Glock!!! I have a couple of 1st Gen. G-17 that have been shot a lot..I have one that I bought back in '94 and the fellow I bought it from said he had put 45,000 rds through it... Last year, it would not extract the last 2 rounds, so I took it down to Glock.. I got it back 6 weeks later with a new 3rd Gen frame on it!!! Fred at Glock told me it was in terrible shape! Now it works like new...!! They will look terrible (on the outside) and still shoot great!!! |

If anything, $100 will get you a new barrel and that thing will keep ticking. Doubt you'll even need to do that. There are reports of over 100,000 rounds being fed through Glocks. They don't really wear out.
Either way, it has a lifetime warranty. If somehow it needs to be replaced, let Glock do so. |

Quoted:
You and five generations of your offspring will be dead before you wear out a Glock. You could shoot $100,000 worth of ammo and it will still be fine. Most likely this would be the case. Only conceivable reason to replace the pistol would be if the slide, AND barrel, AND frame were all broken/damaged at the same time. |

as long as theres at least one inch of rifling left in the end of the barrel then you should be fine for accuracy.
I have talked to people who have 50K plus through their glocks and people who have fired 100K plus through their 1911's. Youre not going to wear one out with casual shooting. I put up my $4,000 STI 1911 and pull out my glock when im going to be doing CQB and rolling around on the gravel or concrete. I use it during weapon retention traning or when im going to be crawling around in the rain and mud and shit on nasty days and stuff like that. Glocks are frikkin bulletproof literally. |

Quoted: as long as theres at least one inch of rifling left in the end of the barrel then you should be fine for accuracy. It's virtually impossible to wear out a Glock barrel. Between the polygonal rifling and near diamond hard Tenifer treating along with the inherent low velocity and heat of a pistol cartridge, it's not going to happen. |
