Considering a 10mm in a full size 1911 platform.  So far I am aware of the Colt Delta and the Dan Wesson.  Is there any other quality 10mm out there?  What is the best for the money?

I have a Kimber Stainless Target II and a Fusion Hunter Longslide in 10mm. Both shoot very nice.

My only 10mm 1911 is an old, pre-enhanced Colt Delta Elite.  That being said, if I were to purchase a new 10mm 1911 today, I would probably lean towards either the Dan Wesson RZ-10 Razorback or a semi-custom like the Fusion.  I am unwilling to test Kimber's on-again/off-again quality with a 10mm.

Not a 1911 10mm, but a full size pistol with 15rd mags: EAA Witness.

The Witness has had some durability problems with 10mm, plus the OP was looking for a 1911.  Honestly, if he wants 15 rounds in a truly reliable and controllable 10mm package, his best option is the Glock 20 or to wait for the Glock 20SF.

If he wants something with larger capacity but still in a 1911-style, he could look to a custom-built STI or SVI type pistol.  STI used to offer the Edge in 10mm, and may still by special order:

couldn't be happier with my Dan Wesson

Well, if tank45 wants to stick with the 1911-platform, besides the old Delta Elites still floating around, there are 10mm 1911s made by Fusion, DW, Kimber and some more limited custom stuff, like from Kase Reeder (on Caspian frames, etc) and Wilson Combat (CQBs & SuperGrades).

The Master pistolsmith who did the custom work on my Delta 5 years ago, Vic Tibbets, is back at Wilson's as the custom shop manager. He supervises a lot of the 10mm builds, so if you've got the coin, a Wilson 10mm should be good to go. Plus, Wilson's producing 10mm mags again (product #47NX). If you've never seen these, they look just like the .45 47Ds. I have 6 and they all run fine. I also use Tripp's 9-rd Cobra mags and they've also run hiccup-free.

    My Delta:

    Paired with my SBR:

At the S.H.O.T. Show, Colt announced a limited run of new DEs. My FFL says he probably won't see any until "after Labor Day." These are supposed to be all stainless with bull barrels (no bushing) and Novak-style fixed sights.

As mentioned, there's also the Glock 20, with 15+1 capacity, and the Tanfoglio 10mm Witnesses, also 15-rd capacity, which EAA imports. Personally, there are way too many reported problems with the 10mm Witnesses, essentially a cheap CZ knock-off, so I'd avoid them. EAA's customer/warranty service on these guns is reportedly horrible, so I'd pass on them for that reason alone.

    I have the G20 and like it a lot, and I also have two S&W 10mms, models 1006 (5") & 1076 (4.25"). The Smiths aren't 1911s, but they're durable, single-stack guns with 9+1 capacity.

Since I already have a great-shootin' Delta, I may skip the new ones and just save my $$$ for Vltor's 10mm Fortis, to be released (probably) next year.

Eric Kincel and the Vltor people are improving and strengthening the basic Bren Ten design in the Fortis. The original BT combined design elements taken from the older CZs that Jeff Cooper admired along with Sig 210 styling in the slide. The Fortis will retain the look and ergonomic grip shape of the original BT, while getting a mag-capacity boost to 15-rds without enlarging the grips's exterior dimensions. Like the BT, the Fortis will also offer 1911-style cocked & locked capability.

    Hope this helps.

Well....................

A) *I* have a Witness & "durability" hasn't been an issue with me. However, I have found that the Europeans don't place a premium on spring strength, so I've replaced the recoil & mag springs with Wolf units.

B) Yes, I know he mentioned 1911, which is why I added the caveat "it's not a 1911".

C) As for the Glock being "the best package", if he wanted a mushy trigger then he most likely wouldn't have been looking at a 1911 trigger then, would he?

D) As for "reliable & controllable", I put my Witness up against a Glock 20 any day of the week & twice on Sundays..................

Take a Chill Pillâ„¢, dude.  Just because I decided to have an 18oz Sirloin from your favorite Sacred Cow, doesn't justify the response above.

You recommended the Witness, which does have problems in 10mm (as a model).  I posted that they can have some pretty catastrophic issues (see link below).  The Glock 20 does not have issues like these.
10mm Talk:  "Yes, 10mm Witnesses DO crack their slides."

You slammed Glock for their "mushy" triggers.  That is certainly subjective, because I love the triggers on my Glocks and shoot them extremely well (to the tune of a 90+ Timed Fire string at 25yds with my G20L using full-power handloads).  I offered the Glock 20 as an option after you offered the Witness (when the OP was looking for a 1911).  I was merely seeking to give my favorite 10mm auto-pistol equal time after you shilled for the Witness.

Finally, you, like so many others, lumped "Europeans" into one pot.  Maybe Tangfolio puts shitty springs in the Witness, but Glock puts great springs in their guns.  As does SIG.  As does Beretta.  As does HK . . . etc.  Maybe that's an indication of the overall attention-to-detail and quality one can expect from Tangfolio.

I do want to stay with the 1911 platform.  It is the most comfortable pistol out there for me.  The Dan Wessons look nice.  Unfortunatly the Wilson and high end guns are out of my range.  I would need to stay in around $1000.

Got my Razorback NIB for $775 shipped and transfered.

Take one yourself, homes. I'll let you know when *I* get exicted..................

As a former owner of multiple Glocks, I can safely speak from experience on their triggers. As for "subjective", aren't all guns subjective to their owners/shooters?

Knock yourself out, sir.............

Yep. Ain't being an American great?!

Just a bit of a leap in "less than perfect springs" to "shitty springs", wouldn't you say?

As an owner of multiple Beretta's, H&K's & former Sig Owner, I can safely say my Witness cost anywhere from 1/2 (H&K) to 2/3-3/4 (Beretta) of the other guns. Are shortcuts taken? No doubt. Is the gun still worth the $400 or so I paid for it NIB? Absolutely!
