My buddy is looking for a $1,000 1911 and has narrowed the search to a Sig TACOPS or a Springfield Operator.

Any thoughts?

Suggestions for other weapons?

I have sig nitro  tacpac. Fantastic piece.
My next should be a springfield stainless target

Both are great guns.  I personally own a threaded TacOps and love it.  Some people knock it because the Sig isn't a "traditional" 1911.  It has a sig design slide and an external extractor.  That drives some purists nuts.  Not me - I love mine.  It runs great and delivers where it counts

Springfield Operator was my carry gun for a long time, I still carry it occasionally.

Fantastic handgun extremely accurate and very reliable.

For 1K, I'd go Colt XSE.

I'm a springer fan - they have been great for me over the years and customer service is outstanding (never needed it) from what I've read.

With that said, $1k gets you into offerings from Springfield, Colt, SIG, etc...

If I were to spend $1k my options would be:

Non Railed Guns

1.) Used Springfield TRP
2.) Springfield Range Officer and put a Harrison rear sight on it (replaces adjustable)
3.) Springfield Loaded
4.) S&W E Series
5.) Rock Island spend the rest on a case of ammo and mags

Railed Guns

1.) SA MC Operator
2.) SA LW Operator (PSA has em on sale at the moment)
3.) S&W E Series (TA model)
4.) Rock Island Rail Gun and again - case of ammo and mags

Sig's seem to be great guns - but I've only handled them and they did seem very nice.

This is just my $.02 and its worth what you paid for it

The options really open up once you get to the $1,100 - $1,500 range

Out of those two Springfield Operator would be my pick for sure. I do not care for the Sig 1911's very much though. I mainly dislike the fact they use an external extractor, weird slide profile, and 80 series internals. The Springfield 1911's are great guns and they are more classic with 70 series internals and they've been making 1911's for a long time.

I've had the worst luck of anybody in the world with springfield but if I could find a good price on a LB Operator I'd try it.

That being said, the Colt Rail gun is about that price, I've got a Tac Ops and it' been a great gun.

Now I gotta keep checking that site to see if they get a good deal on a rail gun!

I notice both listed by OP are railed, so I'm guessing that's what the search is for

No doubt.

That's a bit less than I paid for my Commander XSE about 5 yrs. ago.

Id take the springer personally over the sig.

Im biased towards internal extractors however

Had a TacOps, loved it. One of the best 1911's you can get for the money. Night sights, front strap checkering, rail, magwell.  And comes with four mags, tho some here will say the suck. Never had issues with any of my mags or the gun. I sold it to fund a P227 but got suckered into buying a new car instead.
