Iam saving up for my first 1911 I've wanted one for years but for one reason or another I've put it off. Well I shot one the other week and I can't hold out any longer lol.
So what iam wondering should I get a ruger/para/Taurus priced 1911 or save up alittle more and get a Springfield/colt/Kimber. Iam leaning towards getting the ruger so talk me out of it lol |

Save your pennies. It is WELL worth it to get the Springfield, Kimber or Colt over the others listed.
Be careful 1911's are addictive and only get more expensive as they get nicer.... Later you will see that the kimbers, colts and springfields ARE the reasonably priced ones. |

Cheapest I would go (from the brands you list) is the Ruger. I have had a good experience with RIA and a bad experience with Taurus. The Taurus had issues with the ambi safety disconnecting and the right side starting to come out of the gun. My most recent 1911's (I'm still waiting on these to show up). A Kimber Special Operations Task Force 82 pistol. (deployment group buy) Also on the way is a Sig Scorpion w/threaded barrel. |

I havent seen the R1 outside the store case, but I'm starting to really dislike and avoid anything related to remington. I hate their brass, i hate their bullets, i hate their shotshell hulls, they screwed up marlin, I'd take a m77, m70, 10/110, or CZ over a 700 any day, and I would only choose dpms over oly.
I say again; go colt, sprigfield, or Dan Wesson; you wont regret it. |

I've heard about them having magazine problems bit other than that how are they? |

I haven't got to play with mine yet |

I own these of what you have mentioned:
Springfield RO. Taurus stainless. Ruger SR. Remington R1S I couldn't recomend one over the other as fars as price and the service they have given me for the money. All have been great but for the money the accuracy edge goes to the RO. The others are more than acceptable, just that the springer is like shooting with a hand drill. Put the whole wherever you want it. I wouldn't sell any of them because they are all great pistols and are performing way above the average internet horror stories that some try to steer you away from. You could pay a whole lot more for a 1911 but for years I have been trying to figure out WHY ??? I have read of issues of all kinds for each of these pistols and have yet to experience a single one of these issues with any of mine. I know I probably bought the only good one of the bunch from each company but it just seems to me there is a whole lot more to 1911 performance and knowledge than reading internet complaints. Remember it's the guys that don't have issues that never start threads about them and you can bet that for every complaint there are countless trouble free identical models out there that belong to guys that are reading these threads and just laughing to themselves. Anything man made will have a problem from time to time, but it's not the guns fault, it's the man. |

I have two Kimbers and a Springfield TRP.
All three are awesome. The TRP (loaded model) is truly packed with features. The Kimbers both have (slightly) better triggers. When I bought the TRP, I held and pulled triggers on every 1911 in the case. I almost bought a S&W E-Series. Beautiful pistols. I just didn't love the trigger on the ONE I played with. Maybe next time. |
| Your best bet is to get your fingers on as many as you can amd pick what you like best. Everybody has their opinion on what is better. I own Kimbers, Springfields, and Para's. You can google each manufacturer and see they all have problems. Pick what you like and what you can afford. The shoot the snot out of it. Personally my $500 Para GI expert shoots better and more accurate than my $900 Kimber pro carry II. They all put out a nice product and any one you choose you won't be disappointed. |

Another vote for the Springfield RO, a lot of 1911 for the money.
They are highly accurate & function flawlessly, I have over 6000 rounds down the tube of mine with (230gr ball, 185gr hp's, 200gr hp's, lead 200gr rnfp, 195gr swc's & 185gr hp's) loaded from P+ to mild target loads & I haven't had a single failure to feed, fire or eject. No stove pipes, no jams, nothing, just pull the trigger & it works. Suppriseingly for a $750 (what I paid for it new) 1911 I'm able to shoot a bowling pin shoot in the morning & then a steel challange, take lunch & then compete in a nra 25yd bullseye match with it & be competitive enough to be able to win any one of those shoots with my Springfield RO. Just something to think about. |
| I own both a Springfield Range Officer and a Kimber Stainless II. Both have been flawless right out of the box. Both are more accurate than me. Neither has ever had a FTF or FTE (including my often bashed Kimber mags). I added Crimson Trace laser grips and my Kimber is my daily carry. Dollar for value, the Springfields are the better buy, but once you use the Kimber a few times, you will know where your extra dollars went IMHO.http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj312/kevmca/20130207_081313.jpg |

Pick up a Ruger to get in the game and after shooting it for a while you will know what interests you. I moved to Colt many years ago but just picked up a Ruger, they are a good solid gun and don't appear to have any major issues and are easy to sell at this time. If I didn't shoot Colt I would probably pay attention to the Sigs. Personaly I would pick up a Colt Government Model and go from there. |

So what iam wondering should I get a ruger/para/Taurus priced 1911 Many people for whatever reason, have brand loyalty. To each his own but I say give Taurus a look. (Both of) mine work just fine. They are a joy to own and operate. They eat everything from Tula to Speer Gold Dot. This is my second 1911, and is my EDC. My first one is the railed stainless model. I'm looking at the two-tone non railed version next. Personally, I see no need to buy another brand. Check out what gun reviewers and owners have to say, then make your own decision. http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd231/redalrt1/NDW.jpg With added Hogue grips in a Silent Thunder IWB http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd231/redalrt1/2012-11-20_19-08-54_671.jpg Target @ 7 yards http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd231/redalrt1/TargetPractice7YardsFeb1320131_zps10a6f2e7.jpg |
