I am torn between the good old 158 gr LSWC or the Hornady Critical Defense 110gr in standard pressure. I have an older Colt Det. Spcl and I only put standard pressure through it. What does the hive think? Keep in mind, this is my summer carry gun.

Dr. Roberts usually recommends 148Gn HBWC for non (+P) rated guns, though recently the standard pressure Corbon DPX 110Gn is getting some recommendation.

Other "Experts" say the non (+P) Federal 125Gn NYCLAD LHP performs well in actual shootings and federal is making it again for 2009.

I would buy 1 box of each of the following:
110Gn Corbon DPX
110Gn Hornady Critical defense
125Gn Nyclad
148Gn HBWC

Shoot each of them in YOUR gun and carry the one that shoots closest to point of aim in your gun. Also evaluate recoil and muzzle flash. Ideally you want a load that shoots right to point of aim, has little muzzle flash and managable recoil. Picking a load based on gel testing alone is silly if said load ends up shooting 6" low and 4" left at 7-yards because your gunsights came factory regulated for a different bullet weight at a diffeent velocity.

Unless your Det. Spl. is really old (I have a Police Positive that is) I am sure it can take a few of the better performing +P rounds being shot in it with no damage. I know the new Speer 135gr GDHP is a great load but I still have several boxes of the older, well proven, WW 158gr SWCHP +P I use in my snubbies...well my snubby and those belonging to my mom and kids. In my PP I load with the last box I have of the old Federal Nyclad 125gr HP non +P...a very nice load that was, unfortunately, discontinued long ago.

The Buffalo Bore 125gr non +P looks to be an outstanding load even for those of us that can use +P.

Testing results here:  http://www.brassfetcher.com/Buffalo%20Bore%20125gr%20Speer%20Low%20Velocity%20JHC.html

Looks like they only tested it against bare Gel. i would prefer to at least see the gel results in a light cothing test.

I would also like to see a test with auto glass and heavy denim.. but these results are pretty good and you can't get all tests for all loads.
In addition, the Corbon DPX 110gr tests looked good.  The Speer Gold Dot 135 gr that is often recommended did not do as well.  Do you have a pointer to some test data on the 148gr HWBC?  Don't think I've seen those for sale recently.

I don't worry about those two at all. as an armed citizen I'm not going to be shooting people in cars and the 4-layer denim test is a worst case test not intended to mimic any rational barrier.

There have been 4 robberies withen one mile of my house in the last week. Even though they were done by different criminals they were all dressed the same. A cotton hoodie over a cotton T-Shirt. Thats pretty much the crooks winter uniform for I live.

Fortunately I live in a pretty safe area on a few acres.  I consider car doors and glass as reasonable barriers for ammunition I carry in the car and since we have winter here I want to be prepared for heavy clothing.  I'm actually pretty impressed with the amount and quality of information we have available to us to make informed decisions.  My vote is still for either the Corbon DPX 110gr or the Buffalo Bore 125gr.  YMMV of course but it's good that a lot of folks around here think their requirements through.  Would still like to see test results on the 148gr HBWC if you know of any.

Unfortunately they won't let me register with my normal hotmail email so can't get to this.  Appreciate the pointer in any case and I'll keep a look out for other discussions on this round.
