Out of all the guns I own a Hi-Power is just one that I never got around to getting.  I now have the cash to get one but can't decide on which one to buy.  So far I am looking at getting either a Browning Hi-Power Mark III or a FNH HP-DA.  The only difference that I can see between these two is who makes it and the price which only a few bucks difference.  So which should I buy?  Is their another manufactuer out there that I should consider?  Opinions welcomed.

Well actually there is a difference, The Browning Mark III is S/A only, the FN you mentioned is a D/A pistol, FN makes a S/A model also though.

Also, FN makes the Browning pistols, the only difference is that Browning does a little more fit & finish on them, and some of the get that deep Browning Royal Blue finish.

I have heard of problems with the SA/DA version. I would buy a top of the line Browning if you can find it.

I have a Browning silver chrome hi-power and I used to have a FN hi-power, which I sold.  The Browning version, even though it's probably made at the same factory, is much better.  The FN version I had was PAINTED!  Yes that's right I said it was PAINTED BRAND NEW FROM THE FACTORY!  I thought it was blued, but it looked a little funny.  One day I carried it in my waistband without a holster, and my belt buckle chipped off some of the finish near the trigger guard.  Upon close inspection, I was surprised to see that it was paint.

Aside from the whole paint thing, Hi-Powers(especially Browning) are the best 9mm pistol you can buy.  This is an absolute fact, not an opinion.  They balance and point perfectly.  They are 110% reliable.  The trigger pull is a little heavy from the factory, so if you buy one, you might want to have a trigger job done.

The double action version of the Hi-Power shares very little in design with a real single action Hi-Power, even the magazines are not interchangeable.  I think you will regret it if you buy the DA version.  In a few years, if not sooner, I'm sure the DA be out of production.  Good luck finding parts.

GET A REAL SINGLE-ACTION HI-POWER!!!

HMM I just bought a new FN-HP, it is a baked on finish, in fact it's the same baked on finish that the Browning Mark III's use. Browning does have the blued finish also, which is beautifull.

I got my FN-HP from CDNN for $449 shipped + $15 to my FFL and it was an unbeatable deal. While the sale is over now, I have heard others say that if you call you can get it for $459 shipped.

Now compare that to the $650 - $800 I've seen for FN's and Brownings in stores and I'm a happy camper.
