Hey guys, I'm getting a Custom TLE RL II this weekend and plan on putting a magwell on it.  My last 1911 (SA) had a magwell already on it and I a) got used to it and b) simply like it.

I'm deciding between the Smith and Alexander or the Ed Brown.  I see both are drop-ins, no modifications required.  I can get the Ed Brown 10 bucks cheaper.

What do you guys think?  Thanks

I just bought a blue Wilson for my SA loaded and if I like it, I will be looking for one for the Kimber CDP Stainless II Custom Shop, so TAG!

I can only speak for the Ed Brown, as I have one on my pro carry (just installed it this afternoon!). It dropped in no fitting required, and it looks great. I'm a happy customer!

My Wilson was just a PITA - grips won't fit flush and I sanded and dremeled as much as I dare.  The one ear is just in the wrong place.  I may just lop it off and go with the one ear in the right place.

i put the Kimber extended magwell with the arched backstrap on my TLE/RL II
shitty thing was it required filing... fuck if i know why i put a Kimber part on a Kimber gun and i still had to mod it...

I went with the Ed Brown; it will require some fitting to let the grip safety fully retract, then allowing the firing pin safety to fully retract.

I had a PITA time with it....I am new to the Swartz safety....and am not a fan already.

But here's pic to show off, better pics to be taken soon.

I'll most likely make my own resin based grips.

An Ed Brown which required a little filling to fit the plunger rod of the Schwartz safety properly. Very easy to do, And a great fit and feel. I love it!!

Man, I wish you had posted this on Sunday.  I had the exact same problem.  It fit in just fine, but it didn't play nicely with the swartz.

Do you have a link about this, or can you elaborate a bit on what you mean about "filling in to fit"?  I'd love to add this to my Pro Eclipse, but I haven't the foggiest what you mean by that.  (Due to my own ignorance, I'm sure)

ETA:  You meant filing, as in "Use a file".  Never mind.

Call Nighthawk Custom and ask about their one piece machined magwell. The thing is a work of art.

I'm surprised fitting was required.  I have put extended 2 piece magwells (ed brown and kimber) on both of my Kimbers (Custom II and TLE/RL II) without anything more than a punch set.

The Ed Brown MSH and magwell dropped right into my CDP with no fitting.

It also fit right into my TLE II

What does adding a magwell do for the handgun, after reading your post I went to Kimber site as well as the Ed brown it doesnt say what it is good for, I see my Kimbefr pro carry II doesnt have one.

Just makes magazine changes easier.  In a high tempo situation, the magwell creates a larger more forgiving opening for the magazines.  The magwells can also help distribute weight with a front heavy (railed) pistol.

I am a Smith and Alexander fan totally. I love the fit and feel of them. That extra flush 1/4 inch or so on the bottom gives me a better grip. Very easy to install. This is my Warrior, also have one on my SA TRP and Champ Opr.
