I'm thinking about getting a .22 conversion for my 1911.  Which is the best kit to go with?  Do they all have last round lock open?

I have an early Kimber conversion, and it does not lock open after the last round. Still a good unit, though...

BTW, why'd you put this in "revolvers"?

kimber is great.  buy ceiner mags for 15 rounds though.  kimber mags 10 rounds and they suck.

It will depend on what your intentions are for the kit.  accuracry?  plinking?  training?

If youre looking for the LSHO feature, youre options are limited.

The early Colt ACE conversions w/the foating chamber will have the LSHO.  Im not sure about the real early non floating chambers, but from what i read, they werent that relaible.  mags are expensive 35+ if you can find them.

Jarvis.  his units look sort of like a beretta upper with exposed/open top frame, but his uses the ACE mags and has the LSHO feature.

Advantage arms has 2 1911 type kits. One is like the ACE the other is in the flavor of S&W 41/Buckmars where the upper part of the slide is fixed.  ive been looking at getting one, but they dont seem to be able to keep enough in stock to order off the web and they fill dealers orders first.

Tactical Solutions ? or tactical innovations has come out with a 1911 converion too, but havent seen anything an price or availability.  there was an article on the prototoype and the guy gave it good reviews.

at one time IIRC Marvel had listed the LSHO as a feature, but i belive with the upper being aluminum, it the slide stop was beating the notch up and its not listed as a feature.  also, some of thier units still or used ACE mags.

Ciners kits are nice and he makes them for others.  Not sure who know. But he does offer 10+ rounds in his mags if youre state allows 10+.  most people dont like doing business w/him, but if you want one, order thru brownells/midway.

one last note.  whatever kit you get, try different types/brands of ammo.  from my experience with 22s, i notice they may have a liking for a particlular type/brand of ammo.  and you wont know until you try.

edit:

also, just because you have a 1911 doesnt mean your kit will fit.  I have 4 colt 1911s and my ciners will fit on but 1.    so, just beware.

Correct me if I'm wrong, please, but the Kimber units are made by Ciener, right?

i heard made by ciener.  but kimber only has included 10 round polymer mags that i think suck (mine came with the bottom glued on from the factory)

ciener comes with 15 round aluminum mags if you are not in a banned state.  those 15 rounders are very nice and they come apart to clean.

i love to shoot the aguilla super maximums from mine.  of course they shoot about anything that is high velocity.

I'll have to pick up one or several of the Ceiner mags. The dealer discount they give C&R licensees really helps!
