| I am 17 yrs old and have 10+ years of experience with all sorts of firearms such as: 30-06, 7mm-08, 12 ga, 20 ga, ruger mkII .22, swmp15-22, etc. I am looking for a first handgun. I realize a .22 would be "ideal", but I am not going to put money toward a .22 because that is what I have dealt with the most (other than the hunting guns). I like: cheap, slim, ease od disassembly/assembly, mag size around 15, and not compact. Any suggestions? Thanks for input! |

yeah I forgot to mention that I know that and am looking for an 18-yr-old purchase... no illegal stuff Just have one of your parents buy the gun for you. Then they can gift the gun to you. Most states allow this. The same with ammo. The problem with "straw buys" is when one person is a convicted felon and the other person "gifts" him the gun. THAT is ILLEGAL. Provided that you don't have a juvie record and your parents are in agreement, it shouldn't be much of a problem. |

Glock 9mm and a 22LR slide conversion, best of both worlds.

| I know you where asking in the Glock section too and although a G19 would be my suggestion there, it seems you're not sure what you want. Best thing to do is search various forums on the most popular, have someone take you somewhere where you can rent various pistols and see which one you like best. You have some time to figure out which on you want since you can't buy one yet. |

Having shot them all, I love Glock and M&P. Just my 1k pesos.

Choosing a handgun involves lots of personal preference. Lots of good choices out there, handle/fire as many as you can to find the fit & trigger you prefer.
Glocks & S&W M&P's are good if you want striker-fired (& the S&W is available w/a thumb safety if that's a consideration), SIG P2022 is an excellent DA/SA pistol that won't bust your budget. The SIG P250 has a long but smooth/light DAO trigger (no manual safety or decocker to worry about) and is available in 2SUM kits that allow you to switch from subcompact to fullsize is less than a minute by swapping the modular serialized fcu (fire control unit) between the two sizes (plus you can get other calibers & grip sizes and swap to your heart's content). One of my EDC's is a P250 subcompact slide on a bobbed compact grip module. Regardless of what you choose, keep us posted!... Tomac |

CZ-75
No reason for someone experienced with firearms to suffer with a Glock Trigger. CZ-75 will let you shoot it either SA or DA/SA, magazine capacity is where you want it, 9mm is cheap enough to shoot often and powerful enough to be a reasonable Self-defense caliber. |

Gonna put my vote in for the Glock 19. If I only had one handgun, that would be it. Have someone show you how to completely disassemble their Glock. About as simple as it gets. You can change any parts you need to as time goes by. Parts are easy to come by. And it is the best do everything gun size wise. In all likelihood, you will get more than one handgun as time goes by, so don't stress over the decision too much.
Edit: I just realized you're the same fella that was asking about Glock vs. M&P not too long ago. My opinion is the same as it was then. You are over thinking this, man. |
