I'm looking into buying another 1911.  I own a RIA Officer model, and I have to say that for the money, it is a very nice firearm.  To this point, I have had zero problems, but I am wanting to upgrade.  I am looking at a Kimber Pro Carry II, Kimber Pro Tactical II, a Springfield Champion Loaded, and a Sig SS Carry, and the Sig C3.  Obviously, as you can tell by the options, I am wanting a 4".  I have read reviews on all five, and as with anything, I've read good and bad ones.  For instance, I read tonight that Kimber QA has gone down, and that problems have arisen with the slide stop (apparently it's a MIM part), and that customer service is quite lacking.  I've talked to people that say "They all suck.  Buy a Colt!"  Wow, what a surprise, that person owns a Colt.  I know that there are going to be biased opinions, but what I'm looking for are fair observations of these pistols, and honest opinions.

You have been blessed with your experience, but now it seems you're looking to press your luck. I am a huge fan of 4" compacts, using a Wilson CQB Compact as my dedicated CCW, but I don't trust production 4" models. Kimbers have enough of  a disappointing track record with 5" models, disqualifying them outright for anything shorter, IMO. Sigs haven't established enough of a reputation with their 1911s to convince me either. The Champion just looks horribly unbalanced to me, like the reverse of a 5" model with a compact grip. If someone opened a trunk and told me and a few others to pick one, I'd take the Champion, but I wouldn't choose any of those on my dime.
