STI's are not considered custom built, right, I think SVI do, I'm not sure? Any manufacture out there who makes them? TIA!:)

Just a few custom builders, most oriented toward competition guns:

SV Infinity
Brazos Custom
Triangle Shooting Sports
Limcat
Millenium Custom
Kodiak Precision

And don't forget STI's Custom Shop

I'm not really into these types of 1911s yet but you certainly hear Benny Hill's name come up a lot when people talk about them.

Great list.  I'd stick to SVI or STI.

your talking about the frame or just purchase off of sti/sv?  As I fail to see what is wrong with the builders posted?

Believe this is them:  http://www.sps-dc.com/

I don't know if they are available in the US, but at any rate it doesn't appear we are missing out on much.

I'm sorry Gregory_K...am I missing something?  I said it was a good list and offered my opinion as to which I would look at...I did not state anything being wrong with the other builders posted (I simply have no experience with them).  Did I say something wrong?

Just wondering.

I just see STI used a lot as a gernic covering for all pistols built on a STI/SV type frame. With no preference as to if it left sti as a frame or a complete pistol.

I shoot local 3-gun matches with one of the guys listed there. He used to work with my dad.

Nighthawk is now offering a widebody upgrade using STI frames on several guns. They call it FLX or something close.
