For those that care, I recently just got the Wilson Combat Deluxe Spring Kit for the Beretta 90 Series pistols and tried it out today in my 92G pistol. You get both a 12 lb and 13lb hammer spring as part of the kit, I went ahead and installed the lighter 12lb one along with the 11.5 recoil spring. All I can say is WOW! The DA pull on the gun now is dramatically improved. I thought the regular D-spring was an improvement, and it is, but the lighter hammer springs are even better (with the caveat addressed below).
To be clear, Wilson Combat says this spring kit is for competition use only, and I was worried the gun might have trouble igniting primers on ZQI and Winchester 9mm NATO which seem to have harder primers than most other commercial ammo typically does, but I was able to fire all 5-6 mags I brought out with me (got to the range late, was already getting dark and couldn't stay long) with no light strikes or malfunctions whatsoever. I'll keep an eye on it and how it continues to perform but if the gun with those lighter springs can fire and cycle that ammo consistently, I will be very content indeed. (Unfortunately I can not say the same about my Canik TP9V2 :( I had about 5 FTF with ZQI/Winchester 9mm NATO in that gun while attempting to draw and fire from the DA (decocked) mode. Two different times I witnessed that gun fail to ignite the primer on a fresh loaded round from the magazine, after I had ejected the round before it that failed to fire Anyway, for those interested, you can get the spring kit here: http://shopwilsoncombat.com/Wilson-Combat-Deluxe-Spring-Kit-Competition-Use-Beretta-90-Series/productinfo/758CK/ (I have no affiliation with Wilson Combat whatsoever, but I thought some people newer to Berettas might like this). |
