What do you guys think of the drop in front straps from Wilson Combat?

Will they stay on the gun?

Is skateboard tape any better?

10 cents worth of skateboard tape does the job just fine.

I had one a while back, I had to use double sided tape to keep it in place. I also used skateboard tape which worked equally well. The only thing with the tape I used though is it lost some of its texturing after a while. The wilson piece (being metal) never will....

I used them for a while and liked them.  If you're trying to decide if you want a true custom 1911, this is a great way to figure out if you like checkering.  Installed correctly (and it is possible to do it incorrectly), with good fitting grips, they are pretty stable.  I used them until I took a 4 day class and discovered that they cut up my hand to the point where I wasn't gripping properly due to the pain.  I'm told that building up calouses will cure that, but I took them off and now prefer plain front straps.

I also prefer to use 3M stair tread tape.
