I have problem with my Springfield XD9. I disassembled the gun i.e. moved the complete slide assembly forward and off the frame. Then I removed the recoil spring assembly from the slide and removed the barrel.

When I reassembled the gun to the point where I drew back the slide to the rear stop position and lowered the disassembly lever to the horizontal position the gun slide moved forward as usual and then got stuck. I cannot move it or force it back to the full rear stop position to free it.

Everything is very tight, I cannot even jiggle the barrel, usually when the slide is back it is pretty loose, but right now will not move at all.

To describe how far the slide will go back, it pulls back about 3mm short of being able to engage the slide stop, and goes forward about 1 inch from the slide stop, that still leaves about 1 inch of the barrel protruding from the front of the slide.

So currently I am unable to take the slide off the gun.

I have disassembled and reassembled this gun at least 100 times and this is the first time I encountered this problem. I am at lost and any help would be appreciated.

It sounds like the recoil assembly wasn't centered when you put it back together. Do a search for stuck slide at XDTalk for instructions on how to clear it.

Sounds like a stuck slide. This happened to me and I used the 'crescent wrench' method that is proported to be from a SA Tech. It worked great.

1) Point the gun at the ground holding about 3 inches above the ground.

2) Take a crescent wrench and open it slightly to fit around the skinny part of the guide rod. The side of the wrench should sit on the dime-sized end of the guide rod. The end of the wrench can rest on the ground.

3) While holding the gun grip (gun not touching the ground), strike the crescent wrench with a hammer (I used a block of wood), forcing the guide rod forward. VOILA! Squeeze the trigger and move the slide forward and off.

The culprit is not perfectly aligning the guide rod upon reassembly of the slide/barrel/guide rod. It was slightly off center.

There is a Youtube video of a guy that beats his slide on his desk until it is blowing chunks of wood out of the top. This is not a recommended method - grin!

The first thing I'd try is to drop it on a hard surface. Really.

FIXED

what I did was put the guide rod in a clamp, then pulled back hard on the gun, this pulled the guide rod about half an inch out and that freed everything up, then pulled the trigger and the slide came right off

Thank you again for your help
