I was looking for an XDM 5.25 in 9mm when I came across a .45 version, barley used, for $550. I couldn't pass that deal up. My biggest question is what mag extension are guys using for the XDM's? My 2nd question is, what do most guys do to these guns or are they pretty good for comps right out of the box? Thanks for the help.

Here is the mag extension I found...... http://www.agparms.com/springfield-xd/

What type of competitions? That will help determine which extension, if any, will work best for you.

The class will determine your options. Open, Limited, Tac Optics and Heavy Metal have different equipment rules. I would suggest that you read the rules and then determine the class. The basics will be a trigger job, grips, tungsten guide rod insert, grip tape or treatment, and extended magazine release and magazines to the capacity restrictions. The .45 is really only competitive in HM, but you can use it in the others, but they don't give you credit for the extra power factor or the .45. You can download the power, but then you lose capacity to the 9mm. That is why most Open, Limited and Tac Optics competitors use 9mm's. At that price it was a good purchase. If you are serious about 3-gun you might consider trading it off for a 9mm. We use the Arredondo extensions on the .45, but there are a lot more choices for the 9mm as far as extensions.
