What is a XD9 worth that has about a 1000 rounds through it with two mags?  It is the 4" model.

Thank you

What kind of mags?

What's the approximate age of this? (The mags can tell you some of that, but also the date on the envelope for the included test fired cartridge. If the mags are ten rounders or 15 rounders then it probably has the old blued finish. If it has 16 round mags it probably has the Melonite finish.)

Lock on the accessory rail on the frame. Is there two grooves or just one?

Stainless or blued slide? OD Green or Black frame?

It will range anywhere from $300-$375 for a used XD9 with 1K through it. A lot of factors go into it though. More info would be helpful.

That's the right price - at a dealer, if it was ftf with another individual I'd go $300-325.

Brand new my dealer has them at $449, used $350.

If you can, either get the dealer to call Springfield, or get the serial and do it yourself.  Ask if it is the older Brunial or the newer Melonite.  I would pay less for Brunial, and about that for a Melonite.  The Melonite 9mm's started shipping around April of 2006.

Consider this, if it is Brunial, then there is a good chance that it will rust in your climate if not taken care of (same as a blued weapon).  The finish is not that tough, and will come off fairly quickly and then you will be looking to refinish the slide.  While the Melonite is not fantastic, it is better by a good margin.  The way that I use my tools, I expect the wear.  I have the older Brunial finish, no problems.  My finish is about gone on a bit of the slide, some of it from just handling (back of the slide, over the top from slingshots).  It is about time for mine to be coated.

If you can inspect the pistol, look to see if there is either one or two notches on the accersory rail. If there is just one, it is probably the old blued finish. If there are two notches on the rail, it is probably the new Melonite.

There should also be a test fired cartridge in the carry case that has a date stamped on the envelope that contains it as well. Post ~April 2006 is Melonite.

Also, the switch to Melonite was made around the time that Springfield switched from 15 round to 16 round magazines. You can make an educated guess on blued vs. Melonite by what type of magazine it comes with (15 rounder is probably blued, 16 rounder is probably Melonite).

Here is some examples of the notches I'm talking about on the accessory rail.

PROBABLY blued if there is one notch like this:

PROBABLY has Melonite if it has two notches like this:

The Melonite finish is excellent. It is about equal to Glock's Tennifer (different process, very similar results; the metal has rust resistance even if the finish wears off with both Tennifer and Melonite).

If it is the old blued slide, no worries. Springfield will ArmoryKote the slide for free if you call their customer service with a complaint about the old finish.
