Is there any reason to stay away from the Subcompacts in 9mm?  I know the 1911's are a little touchier in the 3" barrel category, same apply to the XD platform?

I had an xd subcompact for awhile. Unlike most people I was definitely not impressed. The slide is large and chunky. If you place an XD subcompact on it's slide (upside down) it looked to me as if it was nearly as large as a Glock 19. I cannot imagine choosing an xd subcompact over a Glock 19 unless I was really a big xd fan for some reason.

Admittedly a lot of people like them better than I did mine so take that with a grain of salt.

I have the XD-9 subcompact.

I have no problems with it, after a few mags i was pretty accurate.

My wife pegged the target with the first two rounds the very first time she shot it.

Plus with the extended hi cap mags it fits my big hands as good as a full size.

There are no problems with the XD subcompacts.  They may or may not be everyone's personal preference, but there are no "problems."

I have an XD9sc, and I'm very happy with it.  I carry it every day with the 13-round subcompact mags and Pearce grip extensions.

What about bullet function coming from a 3" vs. a 4" in 9mm?

It's going to be going slower, probably 50-100fps slower with most loads.  In most cases it is not enough to worry about.  I believe Speer loads 9mm ammunition specifically for short barreled handguns if velocity lost is a concern.  Supposedly they use faster powders that work better in short barrels and have flash suppressants in the powder that are suppose to help control muzzle flash from the short barrel.

I chose the XD-40 SubCompact for my CCW because I was already very familiar with the XD line of pistols.  I have been shoot USPSA matches in both Limited-10 and Production divisions with an XDs for the past four years so I figured I would carry one too.  The XD SubCompact is not as small and light as some CCW but for me the familiar configuration was a real selling point for me.

I have a XD9SC.  Nice little gun.

I have since replaced it with an XD45C.  The slide length doesn't affect it as a CCW, it's the grip length.  So the extra 1" bbl in the XD45C makes no difference.

I love my Xd 9sc. I'm very accurate with it and haven't had any problems at all. I recently took it a pistol/carbine class to see how it would perform, and it ran flawlessly.

I'd like to add that the only reason I originally purchased it was because they had no G19 left in stock
