Fellows I am looking for your opinions on the SureFire X-300 light.  I will be mounting it on either a Glock(Model 21) or a SpringField pistol.  Thanks, Tom.

Can't go wrong with it. Bright, good throw as well. Avoid streamlights.

The only way to get better is to get the X400. Both the X300 and X400 use the same light. They have both been re-rated by Surefire to 170 lumens recently. I like mine with the remote DG switch. That way I have absolute momentary control over the light/laser with one hand. I can manipulate doors or hunt for light switches and still have absolute control over my lights output.

No other handgun light has this option. Most will require you to manipulate the light/laser with your support hand, or use the constant on settings via your trigger finger. This is a huge FAIL in my opinion. With the DG switch, activation is akin to activating CTC laser grips.

I would think the bore-to-laser offset would provide problems with zero at long ranges and/or using different ammunition.

Of course I have an M&P so I can put a CTC lasergrip in the backstrap, which FOR ME is a better solution.

Have you tested the X400 using different ammo types yet?  If so, have you had problems with POA/POI discrepancies?

I have one on my Sig P220 and love it.  I also have "DG" grip switch.

I thought the parallax issue on the X400 would be an issue also. I'm a fan of CTC laser grips as well. However, on a handgun, the distances that are shot at don't seem to matter. I sighted mine in at about 50 feet.

I believe Surefire should have designed the X400 so the laser was at the top of the light close to the rail, but they always leave room for improvement. I was busting the reps balls at SHOT about several improvements that could be done to the X400.
The toggle switch at the base of the unit is pretty useless IMO. It toggles between OFF, Light, Light/Laser, Laser, OFF.
I always leave mine on Light/Laser. I couldn't care any less if the light is active during daylight hours. So I'm probably going to modify the switch on mine. Basically, cutting off the toggle. I've had a few issues where I've drawn the weapon in the dark, and had no light, only laser. The switch was bumped during the draw or during reholstering. Fail.

Another fail is the mount. It has a large flat head screw that protrudes out of the side of the weapon light. The head of this screw hangs up on the edge of a holster when reholstering.

The laser diode itself can hamper reholstering also. Another reason it should be at the top of the light.

Care to explain why not to buy a Streamlight?

I have used TLR-1s in classes and competitions with zero problems.

Tell me about the DG switch.

How much pressure does in take to activate?
Did you have to adjust your grip?
Any problems with white light ADs?

I have owned about 20 streamlights and all have failed and needed to be warrantied. So on that note I would not trust one of their products as a weapon light, I'd rather not be killed due to equipment failure. My surefires have never given me problems, not saying they can't fail but they haven't yet. Streamligh quality seems to have degraded o er the past few years IMO.

With the DG switch, it is possible to get an accidental light discharge on the draw stroke. The holster I bought has the light housing enclosed so the light is contained within the holster. To activate the light, it takes about as much pressure as a set of CTC laser grips. Depending on how tight you squeeze your middle finger, you have control over the light/laser output.

There isn't much grip change, you feel the switch under your middle finger. It gives you a tactile feel for the activation.
