| Looking at purchasing my first handgun. I like the feel of the xd. Was thinking the 40 cal essentials package from psa for 399. Anyone have any comments on that gun or why I shouldn't get it? Seems to be cheapest around. Thanks |

You are going to get a lot of flak over buying an XD here… Many hate them, claiming they fail in classes, made in Croatia, etc. None of the ‘problems / failures’ are documented and are not confirmed by actual XD owners.
I have several XD’s and they are my go to pistol. I shoot the XD pistol better than anything else I have owned with exception of the 1911. I put the XD and the 1911 on equal ground when it comes to ‘shoot-ablity’. The essentials package is a great value / deal. You get everything need to get started. When I first got my first one, I looked at the holster and went - pffff… but after a hundreds and hundreds of draw and re-holster cycles, it works surprising well! I have other name brand holsters but do not hesitate to use the XD holster. In some ways it is better..... Go for it!!! |

Quoted: Can u buy bigger mags then the 12 round ones provided? There are a couple aftermarket extensions, but most are junk in my experience. ETA: I have well in excess of 20k rounds down range with my XD40 service. Only issue I had was that the trigger bar broke recently. Replaced it with a Springer trigger kit and couldn't be happier. My XD40SC doesn't have quiet as many rounds, maybe 10-12k, and is still going strong.

In the 4 handgun classes I did last year (each one over a 4 day weekend) I never saw an XD or a Glock go down. I saw high end 1911's go down lots and also saw lots of M&P pistols go down. I used my wife's XD9 during my last class and it was flawless, even with Wolf ammo. I also ran it dry and it still worked flawless. Great gun for the money. |
