So I have my ares ranger belt, and I love it.  But the issue I have with it is that its stiff.  I mean really really stiff.  I can't really sit down without it making the back of my pants stick out because its TO stiff.  It carries the weight of my 229 and extra mag amazingly, but wow, this thing is stiff.

Its to the point where I am thinking about selling it and buying a leather belt, since they conform to your body slightly more.  Or is the ares belt really worth the annoyance of circle pants when I sit down

Get a standard Riggers belt in Coyote 1.75". I believe it's Type13 webbing they use. Being 1/4" wider helps a ton in carrying gear, and the less stiff webbing is much more comfortable.

I own a lot of belts and know a lot of belt makers. My personal favorite is Endeavor Stitchworks 1.75" Riggers in Coyote with Coyote buckle. Even got serial #00002 on the Cobra buckle. ;-)

I like leather belts for wearing a suit or with tucked in pants. Otherwise, synthetic is the way to go. The Holy Trinity - Plastic Belt, Plastic Gun, Plastic Holster.

(I prefer it without the offset V-Ring, as shown above)

If your referring the Ares 1.75 Cobra Riggers Belt, he's discontinued them. I have one and its not as stiff as my other rigger's belt (HSGI).

Wow. That's a real bummer on that. I didn't know that. I picked up an Ares 1.75" second hand a year or so ago and gave it away. Bummer.

There are still plenty of makers of the classic design. For custom, I'd go Jones or Endeavor. For off the shelf, London Bridge has them ready to ship. I've heard good things about DSG as well, but the big ass logo alone makes me hesitant.

Both pictured above are Endeavor Stitch Works.

Does the belt give more like a leather belt on form fitting instead of circle forming?

I just received my Ares Ranger belt this past week and love it. I do notice a slight bulging of the back of my pants when I sit down but not enough to bug me.

Yes. You don't get that "I'm wearing a cast around my waist" feeling. A good example, you can roll it up in a tight circle. This would be impossible with a Ranger style belt.

I like them. I'm sure London Bridge, Endeavor, or Jones would refund if you don't like them. Kary Welch of Endeavor is a great guy. Tell him Steve of PSS sent you.

Oh, its not enough for a refund.  The ares is a great belt, and I expect doing a 3 gun or something similar where I am wearing extra weight, it will shine and is worth keeping.  BUT, for summer EDC, its a tad to much for me I think right now.
