SOMETHING ELSE!!!

Sig still has the bugs to work out and is not something that impresses me as a CCW.

Kimber... they are the bottom rung of "acceptable" Mc 1911s in my opinion. $1,500 on a Kimber is likely to get you a decent Kimber, but you won't get your money's worth IMO.You have a good chunk of change, and you seem willing to get it right the first time (2 essential factors for the best 1911 experience).

People are crapping themselves for Yost-Bonitz pistols (he maximizes 1911s by building on Springfield Armory & Colt 1911 platforms like Bill Wilson did years ago) I belive the entry level Yobo *1 is in your price range and 3 times the pistol in terms of quality and value compared to those you have mentioned.

Otherwise, save some more and consider the Semi customs (Wilson Combat, Baer, and Ed Brown). The Yobo will probably give you the most for the budget you have in mind, unless you are willing to put another $400-$500 into the pot.

Get a Springfield TRP!! It's the best pistol out of the box you can buy! Dead ass accurate too!

Kimbers are jam-o-matics!

In anticipation of the Kimber/SA war I'll add this...

It's not worth arguing which production pistol (top-notch SA, Colt, Kimber) is actually worth $1,200 - $1,500. The point to consider revolves upon "which 1911(s) will give you the most satisfaction for your  purpose and your money". Unless I have a tight budget and a hardon for picatinny (and unwieldiness) the top-notch Mc1911s don't offer nearly as much for my money as the next class: semi custom. $1,500 gets your foot in the door there. Forget the household brand war... hell, forget the household brands altogether. The Mc 1911s are minor leagues. Don't fall for the bells and the whistles either, particularly since this is a CCW.

A Yobo, or other entry-level semi custom will give you the following:

- Trigger like none other

- Attention to detail regarding QC and fit & finish that Mc 1911 manufacturers miss, EVEN on their flagship models

- Accuracy that is more gun than the most skilled guy you'll ever meet can use.

- Complete and total reliability that you can stake your life on

- The pride of having equipment that is the envy of everybody at the range and the boards

- The confidence that for whatever necessity forces you to sell, you will see receive something substantial for it.

Few people are lucky enough to start out in such an advantageous postion as yourself. Take advantage of this fortune... don't squander it on a crapshoot. Mc 1911 manufacturers churn out hundreds, if not thousands of proper functioning 1911s. But even these often have defects in the finish, rough triggers, and/or other nuissance imperfections that someone spending > $1,000 should never see. Semi customs are the only "true" 1911s by manufacture anymore. You might get an "example" of a true 1911 with a $600 SA or a $900 Colt, but it's all a gamble now with some odds being better than others.

Look for a used 70 series Colt and send it out to be retrofit by your fav smith.

Most people will never shoot a 1911 platfourm to where the gun is DOA.
