I have a nice .22LR conversion kit for my SIG. I really like it because I can get out and shoot / practice with my defensive primary defensive weapon a lot more. I just can't afford to shoot as much centerfire ammo as I'd like right now. Anyway, is there something similar that I can get for my 1911? There must be, there's a ton of aftermarket 1911 goodies. Anyway, could someone point me in the right direction? Are there any peculiarities / difficulties that I should be aware of? Oh, and I'm aware that reloading would be a good idea. A press is on the list of things to pick up this year.

Thanks,

MAX

there are a shit load of conversions out there for 1911s.  however, you will have to verify if they will fit your gun.

in essence there are 2 different types of uppers for the 1911s.

type 1:  the upper is like the 1911s.

type 2.  the upper is in 2 pieces.  if you know what the S&W M41 looks like you will understand.  the barrel/upper is more or less locked onto the frame.  there is a bolt/cocking peice.  these designs are usually more accurate since the barrel/sights dont move around alot as in the typical 1911s style upper.

afa makers/mfg go choose your poison. im assuming you want a current, in production, conversion.

AA:  they make both types of kits.  IIRC, they have the LSHO feature.

Ciner:  he makes mostly just the type 1 uppers.  But he offers FS and AS versions.  also hes the only one that offers 10+ round mags.  ciner kits dont have the LSHO feature.  If you check out ciners site, you will see he has some closeout Wilsons.  From what i understand, Wilson is either making their own or has someone else.  also, ciner doesnt have the best rep here as im sure others more vocal will be more then happy to express.

Marvel:  they make both types of kits also.  but are know more for the accuracry.  No LSHO feature either.  they are more expensive kits too.

TS:  from what i understand they have the license (or bought rights to) Jarvis' design and thier design is based on it.  afa LSHO im not sure, but they do make some nice stuff, so i wouldnt hesitate to buy one.  fyi, they ARE on the spendy side just like the marvels.

Kimber:  Ciner use to make them for Kimber but apparently, they are making them for themselves now.  No LSHO feature.

i think there maybe a couple more mfg out there but i cant remember them now.  maybe someone else will add them.

this is what ive found out in general about 22LR autoloaders including conversion kits.

1.  they can be picky with ammo.
2.  even with the right ammo, they can still be picky.
