I'm very new to 1911's and i'm wanting to know which .22lr conversions will work with my springfield loaded? I looked at the kimber but does it only work with kimber 1911's? I'm sorry if this is a dumb question but i need all the help I can get. thanks

I have the kimber conversion kit.  I actually use it on a kimber, but there isn't any reason that it shouldn't work on the springfield loaded.  Any converion kit from a gun manufacturer will state that it isn't gauranteed to work with anyone else's product except there own, but it should work fine.

Just a heads up, the kimber mags for the conversion kit suck huge donkey dick. Ciener mags work fine for me.  Plus they are heavier and feel more like a normal mag should feel.

If you want the last round to hold the chamber open so that you can get more realistic practice then I would check out the Tactical Solutions kit.  They are extremely pricey but they will give you the most realistic practice and from what I have heard they are top notch quality.

I had a Kimber conversion and it wouldn't fit on my Springfield TRP, it only made it 1/4" onto the frame before it stopped.
sold it and now i have a Wilson/Marvel Unit 2 conversion that works great.  also if you ever plan on using a conversion on a 9mm frame or frame cut for ramped barrel, the Kimber and Ciener conversions say that they do not work on those.

I have a Tac Sol conversion. It runs with any ammo I have tried. It sits on a RIA frame. A Marvel will likely be more acurrate but mine will shoot at least an inch at 25 yards (on a bag) with bulk Remington.

Their mags are very pricey but the Kimber and Ceiner mags will work. They just won't lock the slide open when empty.

It did require about 100 CCI Mini-Mags for break-in.

I have a Kimber kit and run it on 2 different Springfield frames. It was tight on another, but that gun has been tinkered with since then, so it won't ever see the conv. kit again.

My kit doesn't like Remington Golden bullet bulk packs and absolutely hates Winchester. The Winchester's I've tried have been gloriously under-powered. It runs awfully good on Federal bulk packs, though.

Accuracy is OK, nothing to write home about, but not horrible either.

My kimber kit doesn't like anything with a lead tip.  It feeds everything else pretty well.

I use a Marvel on a Springfield MIL SPEC for bullsye competition. Shoots as well as my S&W Mod 41 "Jam-a-matic" with none of the jams.  No hold open though.

I use the Kimber top end on my Norinco. Runs like a top, but I do use a reduced power hammer spring. That is the cause of a lot of problems with the kits, the hammer has to be pushed back by that little.22
Also use the ciner 15 rd mags, never had a problem.

I just bought an Advantage Arms 1911 standard conversion which is very similar to the Marvel II kit.  My AA kit works great with Remington Bulk and is very accurate.  The slide also locks back on the last round and the mags hold 10 rounds.  You can modify the mags to hold more than 10 but I haven't tried the mod on any of my AA Kit mags.  Kimber mags work in my AA kit but will not lock the slide back.  Here are a couple of photos of the AA kit on my RIA frame.
