Greetings,
I recently purchased a S&W M&P45 with a threaded barrel, and am having a difficult time finding a compensator. I realize the .45ACP does not have nearly enough recoil to warrant a compensator, but I am still interested in finding one. Does anyone know of any .45ACP compensators? |

Greetings, I recently purchased a S&W M&P45 with a threaded barrel, and am having a difficult time finding a compensator. I realize the .45ACP does not have nearly enough recoil to warrant a compensator, but I am still interested in finding one. Does anyone know of any .45ACP compensators? It is NOT the lack of recoil which is the problem. Problem is the lack of PRESSURE to make a compensator function. .45 ACP in the real world operates at about 15,000PSI to 19,000 PSI - PEAK CHAMBER PRESSURE; the pressure drops off dramatically the further you go down the barrel. In USPSA (aka "ipsc") we tried controlling .45 ACP recoil with comps throughout the late 70s & early 80s. They worked - but not very well. Along WITH the added magazine capacity of rounds like the .38 Super and more recently, the 9mm MAJOR, it was discovered that higher pressure = greater compensator efficiency. 9mm Major typically runs past SAAMI 9mm +p pressures and in reality, is typically 40,000+ PSI. At that pressure, with a modern, efficient comp and the right spring set up, the 1911 or 75 race gun stays remarkably FLAT while firing - meaning: on a race gun with a C-More dot sight, the "dot" does not even leave the viewing window during firing. Think about how much faster you could shoot if your 9mm shot a lot like a .22? Now you begin to see why race guns are built the way they are. Still want a .45 comp? Try Sarco. |
