Happy New Years and welcome to my first post of many on the forum. Here is my problem... Im shooting a standard .45 XD with reloads. On every 20th round or so the striker fails to hit the primer hard enough to ignite. It is hitting, but only leaving about half the indention in the primer that it should. Im using CCI Large Pistol primers with a hand priming tool. I have also had the problem when using brass that my dad primed using a progressive reloader (also CCI primers). I also had this problem with an identical .45 XD but had no problems with a new .45 S&W.
I tore apart the slide, used a sonic cleaner to clean everything, lubed correctly accoring to instructions and still have the problem. I ordered a new striker spring, dampening spring, and recoil spring from XDguys.com and have yet to try them out. I just bought some PMC 185grn JHP, to use as a base line test, but cant get to the range today.
I figure the problem is dirty primer pockets, and the primer isnt sitting properly, and the striker is only pushing the primer without igniting it. Or the striker spring is failing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

does it work fine with factory ammo?

if so the issue isn't your gun it's your reloads. make sure the primers are not "high" and or are properly seated in the brass.  what brass are you using? i have sen some crap like amerec that was BAD out of spec on the primer holes and had DEEP pockets that put the primer almost out of reach of the fp.

before dicking around with the springs i'd try it with factory ammo.

I'm using a mix of brass, one of which was a federal, and failed to fire. Ill try the factory ammo tomorrow.
If the problem is the primer/pocket, anything I can do to fix it?

Are the primers seated deep enough? LR primers don't quite seat deep enough in the LP primer pocket. Did LR primers get mixed in to the reloads? A XD45 will misfire with LR primers. Do not ask how I know this .

So what was the result? Did you try some new brass or just install your new parts?

do the rounds go off after being chambered a second time? if so, you probably have short seated primers.
i would recommend trying some factory ammo before switchi g out parts.
