First off, I'm not planning on doing this at all, I'm just curious as I just learned of this caliber. In this case, specifically how it applies to the G21 Glock.
I read that you can buy a kit that allows you to shoot .460 Rowland out of any .45acp semi-auto in good condition. The kit has a stronger captured spring and a longer barrel with a compensator. Apparently the compensator is necessary to making the gun run reliably and damage free. My question is, if you already have an aftermarket extended barrel with compensator cuts in it already, would that work or does the .460 Rowland require a barrel specific to it? From what I read, the chamber is the exact same size as the .45acp but, honestly I know very little about such things so I'm asking you ballistic brainiacs. Thanks! (I'm assuming this is the right place to ask this, if not please move as needed mods.) |

"The .460 Rowland case is approximately 1/16" longer than a conventional .45 ACP case but the overall cartridge length is the same, the bullet is simply seated more deeply. The purpose of the extended case length is to prevent the high pressure .460 Rowland from being chambered in a standard firearm chambered for the low pressure .45 ACP."

From what I read, the chamber is the exact same size as the .45acp but, as mentioned above, the chamber is not the same depth (to prevent shooting 460R in a 45 barrel). However, Lone Wolf will ream out the existing chamber depth of a Glock 45ACP barrel to 460 Rowland dimensions. So, in theory, if you had an aftermarket extended barrel with compensator cuts, you could get the chamber reamed and be good to go on the barrel side. Would still need the stronger recoil spring, etc. to complete the kit. I wish I had not read about this cartridge today. Now I want one..... I could convert my 1911 or get a kit for a G41.... |
