Is the .50 AE strictly a Desert Eagle/IMI proprietary caliber? I think I've seen an AR setup for the .50 AE but I don't think I've ever seen another pistol manufacturer use the .50 AE. I know there is a company that makes a 1911 chambered in .50, but I think it was a smaller (shorter) version.

I was just sitting around watching a few of my favorite gun movies (Man on Fire and Collateral), messing with my new Glock 21, and wondering what would it be like for Glock to make a .50, and thinking that the .50 AE would be an interesting cartridge for them to use.

I guess this is what happens when you sit around sipping on rum and coke on your day off whilst watching movies....

No the round is not proprietary. I have seen it offered on a few revolvers.

Anyone know the CUP rating on .50AE vs. what the glock can handle without coming apart?

I know this is way out there, but I remember a thread on HKpro long long ago where somebody suggested a roller-locking .50AE

They did the math and the bolt/rollers/whole operating system would have to be as big as a HK93 bolt (5.56mm) to safely operate.

So there's some food for thought as to why there are few pistols that size.

To push a 300 grain .50 cal bullet to 1,600 fps in a handgun has got to be a butt load.

There was even a 1911 style .50 for a while. By Lar Grizzly. The Mark V I think it was.
They only seem to make rifles now, a .50 BMG and an AR. A lower with a grizzly bear on it.

Don't know the about your 50 AE questionh but the 50 cal AR uppers that you mentioned are chambered for .50 Beowulf(not sure of exact spelling) and the 5o cal 1911 is chambered for the .50 GI(proprietary 50 cal round with same overall length as .45 ACP).

Tromix makes 50AE AR uppers. There is at least one revolver that shoots it. And magnum has made barrels for the DE as long as 14 inches.

I believe AMT made a .50 AE 1911 style pistol. I know they made a .30 carbine one.

Yeah, the AMT Automag V (I think, might be IV) was offered in .50AE
