Is their any significant difference in accuracy between a 4 and 5 inch(bbl length) pistol?

All other things being equal, no, but you may find you can shoot the longer barreled gun more accurately due to several things, including longer sight radius.

it all depends, kinda.  45 acp is based on a 5 inch barrel. for each inch you cut off you drop 50 fps.  If I remember correctly, 40 S&W was based on a 4 inch tube.

But ammo companies are starting to come out with short barrel ammo like Speer GD. But at the least if you go to +P or just a slightly lighter bullet, you will gain your fps back, if you care about that kind of thing.
