i have been enjoying and shooting my .45 more/better then my 9mm. is this a common thing to find? the price of ammo is better on the 9mm but i just shoot the .45 better and enjoy it more.
the obvious answer is just use the .45 but i am trying to figure out if this is common or am i just an odd ball. |

1911 is a very natural shooter for me, and my 1911 is a couple of levels "better" than my 9mm, in terms of cost, fit, and brand/make. I enjoy them both for their intended purpose, the 1911 is more accurate, it never fails to put a big grin on my face. Thumbs up for the 1911 on the range, but the hi-cap 9mm is the "go to" gun.for everyday.

I have a couple of P220's. They were my first .45 experience. I LOVE shooting that caliber. It is a very sweet ride. I really expected something totally different. 9mm is still fun and all and the P226 is like a Bently to shoot, but the .45, indeed, has a certain jen-a-say-qua.
Not just you, my friend. |

I shoot mainly .45acp and 9mm in my handguns and carry both. I just plain love shooting but I prefer my 1911 and more recently my USP .45 for some reason I am crazy accurate with my new to me USP .45 that was a police trade in. The platform makes a big difference to me, like shooting the PF9 I had, I hated shooting that little gun but a .45 out of a USP or full size 1911, it's just so nice it's hard not to like it. I have to say I enjoy shooting .45's the most as well....just not the cost |
| I like recoil too. But when choosing a self defense gun I try not to let what I like affect my choices. I know based on a timer that my follow up shots with a 9mm are faster and more accurate than with a 45 or 10mm. It hurts to admit it, but the timer doesn't lie. |
| It is like a progression that most of us go through. I don't want to think of all the pistols I have had over the years. 9, 40, 10, 357 sig., 45 acp, 380, 25, 32, Makarov, Tokarev, get my drift––-but the only ones in the current stable is a 9mm P7M8 (wifes), 1911s, and a Sig 220. I love the 45acp, reload for it which brings the pricce down to the point i can shoot 3 boxs of my own compared to a box of store bought ammo for the same price. I also load my 45acp on the warmer side but can load lighter for those who might still be a little recoil hy or just being introduced to the big boy. One thing I can say, the platform has a lot to do with the way a person can like a 45acp cartridge––1911 seems to be the easiest for people to catch, then the Sig/Glock. |
| Perfectly normal. 9mm recoil is lighter but ... sharper or something. I can shoot .45acp all damn day (hand starts getting tore up around 750-800rds, softwaring all day doesn't toughen hands up like real work) but 9mm gets annoying after a couple hundred. It's just not as much fun. |

Not crazy. I think a lot of people might prefer the .45acp over the 9x19. Kind of hard to put into words, but the way it's usually described -
9mm feels like a sharp slap. .45acp feels like a hard push. Just two different types of felt recoil. Neither is overwhelming imo, just different. Like a lot of people, I don't shoot .45 as much because of cost. |
| I shoot around 250 to 500 rounds of 9mm out of my G19 a month. And I can almost gaurounty you that I can pull out my 22 year old P220 and shoot it just as well as the G19. I bet I haven't fired more then 50 rounds out of it in the last year and I can still shoot great with it. The .45 is a great round thats for sure. |
| OP, the .45ACP is the All American handgun round. It certainly is my favorite handgun to shoot. The 40 caliber and .357 magnum are tied for second place in my line of favorites. 9mm would be third on that list. I sold off all my 9's in favor for .40's and .45's because I enjoy them much more and its what I like to carry. 1911's are special and in a whole league of their own. I'd say your progressing in your handgun caliber preference, not regressing. |
