Did beretta keep the contract for issued side arm? Are the going to be storms or a new M-9 in 45?
Any answers? |

The standard issue sidearm will continue to be the Beretta 9mm...not a .45. All that was scrapped amd AFIK there are no serious plans to look at anything different now. My understanding...and it might be wrong...is that both the original contract and the follow on as well, have long ended but that the DoD exercised its option to buy more and made a big order fairly recently...many of them the M9A1 models with rail.
Beretta built the PX4 .45 to compete in the tests that never happened, and Sig / S&W / H&K also built guns for that as well. All were and are excellent pistols but none I know of is in official use with any DoD members today. |

Beretta gets contract for 450,000 pistols from the military. First run of 20,000 will go to Iraq forces.

| Beretta submitted a version of its PX4 Storm in .45 for the Joint Combat Pistol evaluation program (the same program in which HK submitted its HK45). The JCP program died off in 06 or 07 and currently there is no official search to replace or supplement the M9. Even though it's a full size pistol, the current M9 cannot be chambered for the .45 ACP round without significant modification - already solved by the PX4. |
