Hi, Just picked up a SA 1911a1, I wanted to break it down and have some issues, first off the barrel bushing is tight as hell, once I finally fought it out, now the barrel comes within an inch of coming out and binds up solid. So what do I need to do, this thing is brand new and I dont want to tear it all to crap on the first day, the only thing I can think is the front sight is not allowint the barrel to come out, any one have any ideas what to do |
| I think I might need to send it to Sprinfield Armory I have disassemled my v10 hundreds of times and my brothers 1911a1 with no problems, I think this barrel is getting stuck on the front sight, I lubed the crap out of the chamber and tried to get it out with no luck its binnding up that tight, and it looks like it is digging into the chamber, this sucks |
It will be easier to get the bushing off if you retract the slide just a little bit. Won't be so tight then, and it will turn more easily. |
Damn! That's a new one! |
Indeed. At least SA'll take care of it... |
If that was the case. The sight would be loose and most likely still move out of the way when the barrel was being moved past it. Think about it. There is nothing that would make the sight length increase, and hang lower internally. That is like saying the tires on your vehicle get larger the more miles you put on them. |
It would rise up and become less of a problem I would think if the tenon was actually loose in the slide. But it's possible the tenon was never peened correctly and someone just knocked the bushing into the slide figuring once in, it would come out. I'm wondering if there is a chip of metal from the manufacturing process left in there or a sliver of metal that is still attached to the slide that was not caught. Either way, I'd send it back in and let them fix it on their dime, thats a factory issue and it should be fixed by them. I doubt they will give you any hassle at all and make sure you tell them to make sure the front sight is attached properly also, you don't want to get it back only to have the front sight disappear one mag later. |

Nope, its a GI 1911a1 brand new (I have a v10 that the barrel comes out the back), 50 rounds down the pipe. I just got off the phone with SA, talked to customer service; while talking to a tech, he said it sounds like the base of the sight was hanging down into the slide stopping the barrel from coming out, probably not ground off properly. I told him it did not look ground off at all, and he said it was possible, sight was put on at end of assembly. after that I stripped my V10 and the base of the front sight is ground flush with the slide. So needless it is on its way to ILL., and yes on their dime they even said they would reimburse my shipping expense. So where do I get a good trigger from while I'm waiting for my upper to come back.
