| would the black talon be usefull in self defense? if not what other ammo |

The BT is what's in all my pistols, reviews here are mixed, but personally, in my un-official testing around the farm, downing hogs and the occasional bovine (for meat with the feral hogs and as to bovines for ending of their suffering), the Black Talon 230grn. HP has performed exceptional. And yes amateur autopsies were performed and rounds were recovered, expansion was very impressive and penetration depth was well past the min. 12" require for most pistol rounds. I like 'em, Mike |
| Back when WW introduced these things, several of us who were involved with their LE advisory board asked them to change the name (I told them to paint it white and call it "White Lilly") and they refused...big mistake. Lumpy is correct, get something else unless you want to be painted in court as some sort of psycho..plus they are no better than several others readily available over the counter. |

I have to argue against the "use these and a civil trial is assured" thought. I worked in Property and Evidence at our Sherrif's Office for over 3 years here in a city of over 1 million people. Of EVERY weapon turned in for whatever reason, the ammo in it wasnt given a second thought. Heck, I payed more attention to it than the Detective/officer/State Attorney loggin it in. It was simply counted and bagged. In all the legit situations where the owner was given his weapon back, the ammo was as well. On crimial or found property cases, it was tossed in a box and sent to the range to be shot. I think it all depends on the area you live in. Best to check up on those kinds of things, and see how they are handled in your area. I know it does happen in some areas, and doesnt in others. I have used them since they first came out. Ranger SXT's and the newer T series is our local dept's issue round. Whether you like the guy or not, even Massad Ayoob has stated that you are pretty safe using the same ammo as your local law enforcement. I have 230 Ranger SXT's in my P220, and use pro Load and Speer Gold Dots in my H&K USP 45 and 45C. I have saved all my original Black Talons to show my boys one day how stupid PC stuff is. Again, it all depends on your area. |
for the new guy.
