Second range trip. Mags had not been cleaned since the last trip (I rarely clean my mags). Took a homebrew and the Kimber Custom 2 again.
The Kimber LOVED both CProducts mags. Not a single malfunction. I'm thinking there's a chance the gun could've been running too dry last time, contributing to a slowing of the slide. This time I greased the rails before going. Fed from both the stainless and black mags without complaint, locked back on the last round with both. Not a high round count on either mag, probably 16rds per, but it REALLY liked them. This trip cancels out the last trip, and we'll see what happens next time out. My homebrew was a different story. Experienced a rather unique malfunction with each magazine - first round slamming into the feed ramp. The magazines sat too low. It seemed like once they got started feeding, they did just fine, but I had to press the mag in to get the first round to feed. I did not have to do this with CMC, Metalform, or the Sarco no-name mag, so it has to be the CProducts. |
| So, I have two of the black and two of the stainless. I started with a quick function check to see if the mags would lock the slide back in my Custom II. I noticed right off of the bat that the stainless mags had a more positive engagement when the mag locked into place. The black mags seem to have a loose fit when you put them in the magwell. Both of the stainless mags locked the slide back without a problem. Both of the black mags had major problems. One wouldn't lock it back at all and the other would lock it back about 10% of the time. I then decided to pull the springs to check them out. The first thing that I noticed was that the springs in the black mags will pull straight out. The springs in the stainless mags catch the edges at the bottom like most do so that you have to wobble it back and forth as you pull it out. When I compared the springs they had the same number of coils but the stainless mags spring seems to be a bit wider and the coils are spread out further so that it ends up being a little longer. I put the springs back and loaded the mags. The black mags are very sticky and it is more than a little difficult to get the last round in. I loaded them less one round and put them in the Custom II again. The black mags have feeding problems and they won't lock the slide back. The stainless mags loaded easier and functioned correctly. I plan to put the stainless mags through their paces next weekend to see if they hold up during some training. |

Ok, finally got out to the range with my TRP and the black and stainless CProducts magazines. I brought out 400 rounds to really give them a workout. Thanks to Chad @ CProducts for the opportunity to test these, regardless of anyones issue with the magazine I'm happy to see a company offer free magazines to posters for testing.
Black magazine: 100 rounds My first impression of the black was underwhelming. The body was nicely constructed and solid feeling, but the finish didn't allow the magazines to slide in easily. The magazine dropped free without any issues. The follower didn't want to go down level, or easily. When I tried loading it with ball ammo and with my hollow points I could only get 7 rounds in no matter how hard I pushed. I tried putting a little grease on the follower to help it slide down easier, but no dice. It would not hold the slide back on an empty magazine. When I tried firing ball ammo through it, it jammed over an over. I had jams I had never even seen before, and most of the time it required pulling the magazine out and cycling the slide back a couple times to get the bullet out. I was unable to get a full 7 rounds to fire without issue, and most of the time it wouldn't go 2-3 rounds without a jam. Stainless magazine: 100 rounds My first impression of the stainless was very positive. The body was nicely constructed, looks a lot like my Springfield Armory 7 rounders. The stainless finish looked fine (scratches don't bug me) and it slid in and out of my TRP very well. The magazine dropped free without any issues. The follower slid down much easier and level. When I tried loading it with ball and hollow points it loaded all 8 rounds without issues. I think the SS finish helped the magazine a great deal to this point. It would NOT hold the slide back on an empty magazine. Out of the 13 times I loaded the gun and maybe 50 times I racked the slide on an empty magazine I'd say one in three times the magazine held the slide back correctly. The SS magazine didn't jam nearly as many times as the black magazine, but it still had issues. The jams were a little more common then the wild ones I had on the black magazine, but it still jammed. I was able to get a couple full magazines through the TRP without any issue, but the slide always fell on an empty magazine, and one time the last round had become stuck still in the magazine. Overall, the SS would be a great magazines to purchase and install a Tripp or Wilson kit into it since it comes with a nice body and base pad...but I wouldn't run these magazines in my guns as they are. I will most likely buy two kits for cheap and try to do a cheap magazine write-up. I'll post pictures later, now it's bed time. |

Went out a second time with 100rds WWB. The black mag seems to be getting easier to load all 8 rds. Still harder to put in to gun when slide forward but does lock with a little extra push. Stainless works just fine. Black needs a little tweaking. stainless I would buy for sure. Thanks again Chad I hope this helps for future development.

First of all, may I apologize to Chad and the rest of you on this board in this thread. I was one of the first five people that got this thread going back in June. Chad offered up mags for T&E and I requested in. Within a few days I had two 8 round mags, one stainless, one black at my door. For that I say thank you. Unfortunately, a medical emergency befell my family, and I haven't been to the range since before that offer was made. As a result, I have neglected to report back on these magazines.
Today I finally got to go. And it was great. I have been following the progress of others, and I'm sad to say that my experiences were not that different. I brought the two CProducts mags and two Wilson 47Ds for control along with my Kimber CDP and 100 rounds of FMJ. The first two mags from the W47Ds were fine, as usual. But I could only load 7 rounds into each of the CPs. They both fired flawlessly. The second loading got 8 into the black one, but still only 7 into the stainless. Both ran fine. Third time through, same thing, but it was getting harder just to load rounds into the mag, like the spring was binding up- just an overall grittiness. Later, on my last two mags, both 8 rounds in the black CP, the last round had a FTF. The slide tried to close on a round too soon, and it hung up in the chamber. A simple rack of the slide chambered it and it fired both times. Both mags locked the slide open every time. Both mags were very easy to insert and eject from the pistol. Neither one was easy to load, and the black one had two FTFs. Thanks very much for the opportunity to do some T&E. I feel that some more work needs to be done to get these up to speed, but I admire the dedication to ask the actual public to try them out- its a bold move, evidenced by the results. I hope your company can overcome these difficulties and I look forward to seeing an improved product in the future. I will continue to bring them with me to the range and shoot with them. Maybe a little TLC will bring out the best in them. |
