well guys i broke down and put some money down on an old broomhandle c96 mauser...It looks beautiful and a bit dirty abut not worn out or refinished.  I believe its a good deal...sharp rifling...matching numbers etc.  I believe it was made around 1915.  I would put it at about 90% bluing and in ecvellent condition.  any thoughts on value??

An all original c-96 in 90% depending on caliber and manufacturer would be anywhere from $750 to 4k.

Is this one of the Chinese imports with the red "9" on the handle?

Just a word of warning if you take it apart. I cannot remember which part it is, but this particular part can fit 2 ways in the gun. The correct way makes the gun work, the wrong way make you send your pistol off to get fixed! I speak from experience on this. When the part is in backward it prevents you from taking the gun apart again.

Mine is a 7.63  german c96, not one of the red 9's.  I have done a ton of research on it and all I can tell is that it was manufacutred around 1915.  it has 2 crowns over a U stamped on it.   serial number is 250203 all the numbers match and it is also stamepd Mauser A Neckar on it  It looks like it is in very good to excelent condition. apparently came in  from an estate sale.  of course I'll be begging you guys for help so I don't mess it up when I clean her up.   I would like to think its worth more than I am paying for it but I don't know until I get it and have some of you guys look at it.   I have it on layaway and payed 1180.00 for it  Feel free to donate money to my Mauser fund!!!   I know all you guys have to support your own mauser habbits.  thanks

I checked out the links. Thank you very much.  It did pose a question that I think I already know the answer to but will throw it out there to you more experienced c96 guys....Should I put the spring kit in it??  It sounds like a good idea.  I want the gun to be service ready but I don't intend on shooting it too much. It is mainly for my collection, but all the guns in my collection are able to shoot. I have  a k98 mauser that fires fine and did not require any major servicing on it when I bought it.   The c96 is in good shape but I guess replacing the springs would ensure proper mechanical functioning.  Have any of you guys done this??

I strongly recommend getting new Wolff springs if you intend to shoot it at all.
As long as you have proper instructions, it's no big deal changing them.
Also make sure you don't shoot hot 7.62 Tokarev ammo in it, just 7.63 Mauser.

Yes & yes.

New gun springs are worth their weight in gold diamonds, IMO.

Thanks for the advice.... I have the complete destruction manual and my dad and his croonies are clock=watchmakers and they will have any speciality tools if i need them for doing the springs. Already knew about the hot tokorov ammo so I won't use any of that.  Any of you guys feel like sharing any more pics and stories about these pistols feel free!!!

So what does it feel like when you shoot them???

Like you're shooting a piece of history................

There's a Broomhandle in the movie, "Joe Kidd", with Clint Eastwood, FWIW.
