It is a 4 inch bbl model 1849 .31 caliber pocket model Colt.

I miss understood my friend when i did the math

I thought he said he found it when he was 16   wrong!!

his dad found it when he was 16

Not sure that’s a Colt 1849.  My guess would be a Manhattan “Navy Type” .36 caliber revolver.

Look closely for markings, esp. along the top of the barrel.

It is a Manhattan

all serial numbers match
