| How often do you strip the slides - pull firing pins, springs, etc. to do a deep clean? Do you do this every time out - or once in a while when the urge strikes? |

I know it's easy to take apart a glock beyond the simple barrel, guide rod, recoil spring, etc. But every 1-2k rounds I take it to a smith for him to do that and deep clean it. Any other time (like after a range trip), I just do aforementioned strip and clean it.
ETA: This is for a Glock, sorry forgot to mention

I've only done it once, and that was to my edc Glock 19 after about 1500 rounds. It didn't need it, but we'd been to the beach for a week, so I thought I'd do it. It was easy, so I'll probably do it again in another thousand or two rounds.
My other pistols aren't shot enough to matter. Maybe one day... |
| Virtually never. I've done it to all my Smith revovlers, mostly to prove to myself i could do it. I've never done to any of my autos and I doubt I'll start anytime soon. I do clean my guns after every range trip. A quick five minute field strip and scrub does the trick. |

Detail strip? Most guns never need it. I don't really pay attention to that. I have done it on my Glocks once or twice. I have no idea on rd counts. I did it just for the sake of doing it. Over the long Thanksgiving weekend, I completely stripped (nothing was left assembled other than the serial number chit) a G19 that sees mostly range time and I felt a little foolish after finding basically pristine innards and nothing to clean beyond the barrel and the breech-face. However, a daily carry piece will pick-up all manner of lint, dirt, gummed-up lube, corrosion and other junk and should receive regular inspection and attention to cleaning, |
