has anyone tried any of the cree led lights, iv seen one in person that put out a pretty good light. i ordered one off ebay the other day and was wondering if anyone had experience with them. thanks
I converted my Surefire 6P to a 2 Watt Cree light and it's very bright (about 140 lumens) and runs longer than the stardard bulb on a set of batteries. It's also much less likely to break since it's a solid state device. I have two other lights with Cree lights in them and they run great. One puts out 250 lumens and is the same size as the Surefire 6P.
thanks, i had a surefire e2d but ended up not carrying it much but the one i seen was nearly as bright as the surefire i had and only ran off of one AA. so the second part of the question, why is everyone paying 150+ for the surefires when you can get these for 20-25 dollars
The expensive Surefires like the A2, etc are mostly because of the technology in them. The new 6P and G2 LED lights are both less than $70 for about 200 lumens of output AND Surefire reliability. That said, I have a $20 200 lumen LED in my old Surefire 6P that's been there for almost 2 years because it's taken SF this long to up the lumens in an affordable package.
I believe cree actually makes the stock led's in surefire, checkout this press release from 07 http://www.cree.com/press/press_detail.asp?i=1167920349046

A lot of money may still be sucked up in the R&D of Surefire, but a crap ton of it goes to advertising as well. Every gun magazine I see seems to have surefire ads in.
I have a number of solarforce L2s that all have proven to be more durable and powerful than my dad's Surefire g2, and all are the same price. |
so i got the light, much earlyer than i expected too. im really happy with it i took it out tonight and the adjustable focus is awsome i can light up a room or throw a tight beam a long distance. the belt pouch that came with it is a joke but other than that its great, im sure it wont be the last one i get.
