just wondering, i hear tons and tons of suggestions to people to "buy springfield" "buy kimber" "buy a semi-custom" but not much "buy a colt". after reading here, i shot them all and fell in love with the good old colt. why dont more ppl recommend colt? are other manufacturers providing a better product for the money? i kinda doubt it, but i'd like to see what the experts think. c |

im no expert. but for me, it has to be a colt. i am considering a fusion build though. but since colt is going to be putting out a new delta elite, i think ill stick with what i know. lots of people will say lots of things. for me, its mostly nostalgia. when i think .45, i think of a colt. ETA: i think some of it may have to do with colts costing a little more than some of the other manufacturers. |

YMMV, but my original Kimber Classic Custom 1911, purchased very early on when Kimber first started producing them; shot better, tighter and more reliably than a Colt Gold Cup I had already spent $300 on in order to get it shooting the way I liked. The Gold Cup went bye-bye, but the old Kimber is still one of my favorite handguns and will be till I'm dead and gone..... Most box stock Colts need work if you are planning on running flying ashtray type HPs thru them and although YMMV, I prefer the trigger pull of an old 70 series over the 80 series Colts with all the added safety crap built in. Most Kimbers and SA 1911 come already w/ features such as smooth trigger, ramped and extended grip safeties which non-custom Colt 1911s lack, which is probably the reason for your comments. mike |

I've owned other 1911s.....that's why I buy Colt. Due to the way everything is made today ( on the cheap ) you may or may not need to do a bit of final tuning on a 1911, even a Colt. When it comes to the Q.C. recieving on vendor components, only Colt has a TRUE Q.C. program. Everyone else is just an assembly shop. There are some custom shops that turn out good 1911s, however. I hate Springfield 1911s, but their custom shop turns out really good work. Frankly, I think peopel whould go with what they like...but not what other people tell them to like. When it comes to a 1911 that can be a hell of a choice. |
