I just got into handguns in January and after buying and selling a couple to try out, I settled on an XD40 tactical and have been shooting it for 3 months now and I like it alot.  I also have a KelTec P11 for when the carry permit comes.

Guns i did not like the way they felt, shot, aimed, whatever: Glock, FS model 92.  I don't want to get into the 1911's yet, even thought the itchis there.  I want to get into them sloooowly, learn each part,  etc... and don't have the time for that now!

Right now I am considerring getting a beretta vertec G for its better grip, decocker only lever, and light rail.  Plus we have a well known fellar here in NoVa that'll sweeten the trigger.

But I am also intrigued by the Witness P2005.  I have always heard that CZ's set teh standard for 9mm's and comfort, and that Col. Cooper would only touch one non-1911 and that was a CZ.  the new guy looks AMAZING and has a rather large capacity.....  (I'm a sucker for polymer and would prefer eaa over CZ as a result)

I also feel a strong urge for a revolver.  I'm looking at either a 357/38 or 45acp.  I am obviously attracted to the ones with teh .000001 inch barrels but most say that's only cause I haven't shot them yet!  Suffice to say, teh idea of a short(er) barreled 45 acp revolver is quite intriging to me.

the 327 is also 1200, but alluring:

If you like CZ's get a P-01.

If you like the 1911 - find one in 9MM.

I'm more liable to go with EAA than CZ for the polymer construction, reeeeeal deep slide position in teh frame, and mag capacity.  Not to mention the uber-tactical rail.

Here's your light rail.  And I'd choose CZ over EAA anyday.

I don't like compacts....... but the reason I want to get into CZ's is to get to this guy:

I just didn't know if I wanted to starta  cz collection in 45.  I thought I'd rather start in 9mm.....

is the compact a three finger hold or will the pinky flop around like it does on all the compacts I've tried....

The big titanium Smiths are cool.  I handled one at the gun show and...well...it's awesome.  But it's got a huge price tag.  If I had the money, I'd have one of these.

You've got a 40 cal. semi-auto and a small concealable piece.  I'd suggest a general purpose revolver such as a S&W 686 w/4" barrel (.357Mag. + .38 Special).
If you want to stick w/ semiautos I like CZs.  I can recommend anything in the CZ75B family including the smaller versions.  They're all good and all affordable.
You really do need to think about a good .22 as well.  Apparently you've been shooting enough to be sure you enjoy it.  The best way to get in trigger time and get more skillful with handguns is with a .22.  You wouldn't go wrong with either a Ruger MkIII or Buckmark.  I'd strongly recommend a bull barrel.
Happy shooting.

Have you ever handled an FN P9?  I was playing with one the other day, and they really have a sweet trigger.  I think it's a very underrated gun.  Just to throw another wrinkle in your decision.
